- Fill a tall glass with ice. Add the ginger syrup and orange juice, and pour in enough seltzer to fill the glass. Add a dash of the pomegranate syrup, garnish with the cherry, and serve.
CHASEN'S SHIRLEY TEMPLE COCKTAIL
In it's 59 years as a Hollywood celebrity hangout, Chasen's had ample time to develop recipes for special clients. However, Shirly Temple was one of only two people who had a recipe from Chasen's named for her. The story behind the drink is that Shirley, at the height of her fame as a child star, came to the restaurant with her parents, who were having a before-dinner cocktail. Shirley wanted one of her own, so the bartender concocted this one for her. Non-alcholic cocktails have been named "Shirly Temples" ever since. This drink is served in a highball glass with ice, and garnished to look like a cocktail; and served with a straw. Other sodas can be substituted, such as a lemon-lime soda. - Place a few ice cubes in a highball glass.
- Add ginger ale and grenadine, stir gently; add enough additional ice cubes to fill the glass.
- Garnish the glass with a split orange slice that straddels the side of the glass.
- Add a maraschino cherry and serve with a straw.

TROPICAL SHIRLEY TEMPLE
A refreshing take on an old kid pleaser, except adults may love this version, too. Allow time for making the Pomegranate-Pineapple Simple Syrup the day before use.

Steps:
- In a tall glass, stir together the syrup and juice. Fill the glass with ice, then top with soda and garnish with cherries.
- Pomegranate-Pineapple Simple Syrup: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine pomegranate juice, sugar, cloves and dried pineapple. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and let cool.
- Transfer to an air-tight jar, cover and let sit overnight. Use a mesh strainer to strain syrup, discarding any solids. Return syrup to jar and refrigerate for up to 2 months. Makes about 4 cups.
