- In a soup kettle or Dutch oven, combine all ingredients except the sausage. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour. Add sausage and heat through. Discard bay leaves.

KIELBASA AND BUTTER BEAN SOUP
A hearty soup for those cold days. Use either Polish Kielbasa or Smoked Sausage. Kielbasa gives a sweet taste to the soup while Smoked sausage gives a great background for the beans. It's delish either way.

Steps:
- Course chop onion and celery and saute in cook ing pot for 3 to 5 minutes in the butter. Add salt and pepper to taste and add paprika.
- Slice kielbasa into 3/4 inch pieces and add to pot.
- Add 3 cans of butter beans with canning liquid to pot. Open last can and puree in blender. Add puréed beans to pot. Add water.
- Bring pot to low boil, cover and reduce heat to simmer. Simmer for minimum 30 minutes to several hours (the longer the better).

- In a kettle or Dutch oven, add broth, water and vegetables.
- Bring to a boil; reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add both cans of soup, and the sliced kielbasa.
- Season with black pepper.
- Heat through and serve.
- Note: When adding carrots, I added 1 cup of sliced baby carrots, and I substituted Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage for the kielbasa.

KIELBASA BEAN SOUP
Kinda reminds my family of baked beans with kielbasa in soup form. I found this recipe at our local food pantry. My family loved this soup and my newphews ate it right down. When I made this soup I used 1 more tablespoon garlic powder. 1/4 cup Splenda brown sugar, which I plan to cut back on next time. I used 1/4 cup hot sauce in place of the Tabasco sauce. I will next time use 2 cans kidney beans. I'll cut the green beans out all together as we thought they just weren't right in this. Instead of Garbanzo beans as I don't like them I used 2 cans mexican chili beans. I'll use 2 cans of butter beans next time. I used 2 cans of pork and beans. I used 1 pound Polska kielbasa and next time I'll use 2 pounds.

- Saute kielbasa and onion until is transparent.
- Add all cans of beans and tomatoes (do not drain), add all juices.
- Add chicken broth and all remaining ingredients.

- Bring a large pot to medium high heat and enough vegetable oil to lightly coat the bottom of the pot. Add sliced Kielbasa and brown until it starts to "curl" a bit and caramelize. Remove from pan and set aside on a plate.
- Reduce heat to medium - low, and add onions, carrots, and celery. Cover and cook ~ 8 minutes or until soft, stirring occasionally.
- Add garlic and cook until fragrant (~1-2 minutes). Add reserved kielbasa with any juices, beans with juice, tomatoes, sage, parsley, and broth. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer covered ~ 25 minutes.
