GRILLED CHEESE FRENCH TOAST WITH BACON

Bacon can be skipped or replaced with ham. Tomatoes are also good on the sandwiches. 1 slice of cheese is plenty because of the richness of the eggs. The kids love it. If you like serve with syrup. If using bacon do try this method Recipe #107440 it makes clean up a breeze.

Grilled Cheese French Toast With Bacon image

Steps:

  • Heat a griddle melt 1 tablespoon butter.
  • Mix eggs with buttermilk.
  • Quick dip bread to cover with egg mixture and place on hot griddle, brown one side, and turn place 1 slice of cheese and 2 slices of bacon on cooked side of 3 slices of bread.
  • Place other 3 slices of bread cooked side down on bacon.
  • Flip when bottom is browned.
  • Using the other tablespoon of butter as needed.
  • Garnish with Syrup or raspberry jam if you want.

I used to love french toast stuffed with breakfast sausage and cheese, so I came up with this easier french toast bake. Our family loves it! I served it to some friends one time, and one said it was "savory" - hence the name: Savory French Toast Bake.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Oil large casserole dish.
  • It's easier to work with the bread if it's somewhat frozen. Butter one side of each slice of bread and cut into bite sized chunks.
  • Combine bread chunks, sausage pieces, and cheese in casserole dish.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon and salt in separate bowl.
  • Pour wet mixture over bread/sausages/cheese.
  • Bake 15 minutes uncovered.
  • Cover and bake another 30 minutes or until eggs are set.
  • If you prefer the top not to be crunchy, then leave cover on entire baking time.

Spread outside of each sandwich with remaining butter mixture., In a skillet over medium heat, toast sandwiches for 4-5 minutes on each side or until bread is lightly browned and cheese is melted.
