Coffee Concentrate image

Steps:

  • Mix the coffee and the water. Leave it on the counter overnight. Strain in the morning, preferably through cheesecloth.
  • For hot coffee just add hot water to taste to 1/4 cup (or more) of the concentrate mixture (depending on how strong - or not - you like your coffee). To make iced coffee, stir together 1/4 cup each of Coffee Concentrate and water. If desired, stir in milk and sugar. Serve over ice.
  • It should keep for 2-3 weeks in the fridge.

1 lb medium-grind coffee (I prefer a dark-roast)
10 -11 cups cold water

This is great for making cold coffee drinks in the summer using a French Press. Only problem is it is so easy and delicious you might end up drinking too much coffee.

Steps:

  • Grind your coffee beans on a coarse setting (not too fine).
  • Pour grounds into a 2 cup size French Press coffee maker.
  • Add water and let sit overnight at room temperature (10-12 hours).
  • In the morning swirl the coffee and depress the press and pour off the concentrate. I store mine in a glass jar for the rest of the day (several days is fine).
  • Dilute with water and/or milk 3:1 (3 parts water/milk:1 part coffee concentrate).
  • Add sweetener as desired.

Cold Brewed Coffee Concentrate image

Steps:

  • Mix the coffee and water in a large covered jar or pitcher.
  • After 4 hours or so, the coffee grounds will separate and float to the top. Stir to remix them.
  • Cover the jar/pitcher and leave at room temperature overnight.
  • Strain into another jar/pitcher through triple fold of muslin. Dump the grounds in the muslin and give that a good squeeze.
  • Refrigerate.
  • Serve using a 1 to 2 ratio (one third coffee concentrate to two thirds cold water).
  • I would also suggest mixing up some and freezing it into ice cubes, so you don't water down your beverage.
  • It will keep at least a week.
