PIZZA PANINI SANDWICH RECIPE BY TASTY

Pizza Panini Sandwich Recipe by Tasty image

Steps:

  • Heat a grill or campfire to medium heat.
  • Make the garlic butter: Add the butter, oregano, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes to a small bowl and stir to combine.
  • Slice the French loaf almost all the way in half lengthwise, leaving a long side still attached like a hot dog bun.
  • Open the bread and spread the pizza sauce liberally over both sides. Lay the sliced mozzarella on both sides of the bread. Lay half of the pepperoni slices over the mozzarella on the bottom half. Sprinkle with the shredded mozzarella, then top with the remaining pepperoni. Sprinkle the Parmesan and basil over the pepperoni, then gently bring both sides of the bread up together to close.
  • Brush to top and bottom of the loaf with the garlic butter, then double wrap the sandwich in aluminum foil.
  • Set the sandwich on the grill or campfire over medium heat. Place a cast-iron or other heavy skillet on top to press down. Cook the sandwich for 5 minutes, then flip and cook for 5 minutes more, until the outside of the bread is crisp and the cheese is melted.
  • Let sandwich cool for a few minutes before carefully unwrapping. Slice and serve.

Steps:

  • Heat grill to medium. Split the panini rolls in half and lightly toast on each side. Slice the peppers into strips and mix well with the tomato purée, parsley and some seasoning. Spread over the toasted bread.
  • Flake the tuna over the pepper mixture, then scatter with cheese. Grill for 3-5 mins until the cheese is golden and bubbling.

I made this with Pizza Sauce and Thick Crust Pizza Dough--both very easy and delicious. Why buy pizza that isn't even that good when you can make your own at home for less money and it tastes better? Recipe from The Pillsbury Cookbook. Cooking and preparation time exclude time to rise. Feel free to substitute or omit any ingredients. Enjoy!

Steps:

  • Grease 12" pizza pan. With greased fingers, press dough into prepared pan forming 1/2 inch rim.
  • Cover and let rise in a warm place (80 to 85 degrees) until light and doubled in size (15 to 30 minutes).
  • Heat oven to 400. Bake crust 8 to 10 minutes or until set and very light golden brown.
  • Spread Pizza Sauce over partially baked crust.
  • Arrange pepperoni, mushrooms, and green pepper over sauce.
  • Combine mozzarella and provolone cheeses and sprinkle over pizza.
  • Bake at 400 for an additional 18 to 25 minutes or until crust is deep golden brown.

1 lb pizza dough (1 recipe thick crust pizza dough)
3/4 cup pizza sauce
3 1/2 ounces pepperoni, sliced
2 1/2 ounces mushrooms, sliced (if using canned, make sure you drain it)
1/4 cup green pepper, chopped
1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 cup provolone cheese, shredded

  • Scatter the tomatoes onto a baking sheet and toss them with the olive oil, oregano, salt and pepper. Roast in the oven until they begin to burst, 15 to 20 minutes. Transfer the tomatoes to a large bowl and mash them into a chunky sauce using a spoon or potato masher.
  • Spread the tomato sauce over the cut side of each roll. Arrange the mozzarella and basil over the top, and if you are using pepperoni, layer that in as well. Close up the sandwiches and place on the panini grill until toasted and heated through and the cheese is melted. (If you are using a skillet, weigh the sandwich down with another pan and flip over once one side is toasted.)
