SUNNY'S EASY CHILI CHEESE FRENCH BREAD PIZZA

Sunny's Easy Chili Cheese French Bread Pizza image

Steps:

  • For the pizza: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Remove a bit of bread from the inside of each bread half, leaving about 1 inch of bread in the base. Brush the insides and edges with the garlic butter and place the bread on a baking sheet. Bake until golden on the edges, about 10 minutes. Remove from the oven.
  • Evenly distribute the Chili along the length of the bread. Sprinkle the cheese over the top and arrange the jalapenos so there will be one slice on each serving. Bake until the cheese is melted and the edges of the bread are golden, 15 to 18 minutes.
  • For the garnish: Top the pizza with the scallions, cilantro, a few shakes of hot sauce and a drizzle of crema. Slice each half into 8 pieces. Serve immediately.
  • Add 2 tablespoons olive or cooking oil, 2 1/2 teaspoons salt, a few grinds of black pepper and the onion to a large pot over medium heat and cook until tender. Add the chili powder and beef and cook, breaking up the beef into bits, until cooked through. Stir in the tomatoes and chiles and the beans, then cover and cook for 20 minutes. To thicken the chili further, simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes more.

One 2-foot-long wide loaf French bread, sliced in half lengthwise
1/4 cup herbed garlic butter, melted
4 cups Sunny's 5-Ingredient Chili, recipe follows
1 cup shredded mozzarella (from a block)
1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar (from a block)
16 slices fresh jalapeno (from 1 to 2 jalapenos)
2 scallions, chopped on the bias
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Hot sauce, for topping
Mexican crema, for drizzling
1 large onion, chopped
2 to 3 tablespoons chili powder
2 1/2 pounds ground chuck
Two 10-ounce cans diced tomatoes and green chiles
One 16-ounce can black, pinto or kidney beans, drained

GREEN CHILE & CHEDDAR STUFFED FRENCH BREAD

From Fleishmann's yeast. Make sure to use the RapidRise yeast. This was so easy to put together and because of the rapid rise yeast, the rising time is relatively short. This may seem like a lot of steps, but it really does go together quickly. Cook time includes rest and rise time. My family declared this one of the top 3 breads I make. Great with a bowl of soup.

Green Chile & Cheddar Stuffed French Bread image

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine 2/3 cup flour, undissolved yeast, and salt.
  • Gradually add water and olive oil to flour mixture.
  • Beat 2 minutes at medium speed of electric mixture, scraping bowl occasionally.
  • Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  • Knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Cover; let rest 10 minutes.
  • Roll dough out to 14 x 10-inch rectangle. Sprinkle evenly with Chile and Cheddar Filling (see below) to within 1/2 inch of edges; pat down lightly.
  • Beginning at long end, roll up tightly as for jelly roll. Pinch seam and ends to seal.
  • Taper ends by gently rolling back and forth to make 16-inch long roll.
  • Place, seam side-down, on greased baking sheet.
  • Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until almost doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  • Brush loaf with Egg Glaze.
  • With sharp knife, cut three 4-inch diagonal slits at the center of loaf, deep enough to expose filling. Bake at 400F for 18-20 minutes or until crust is golden. Cool 5 minutes before removing from sheet.
  • Serve warm.
  • Chile and Cheddar Filling:.
  • In a bowl, combine cheese, chiles, olives and green onions. Stir until well blended.
  • Egg Glaze:.
  • In a small bowl, combine egg white and water. Stir to blend.

Steps:

  • Cut off top of bread. Carefully hollow out bottom of loaf, leaving a 1/2-in. shell. Cut removed bread into small cubes; set aside. In a skillet, brown beef; drain. Add soup, green pepper, celery, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Cook and stir 3-4 minutes. Stir in the reserved bread cubes. Spread into bread shell; top with cheese. Replace bread top. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 6-8 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Continue adding the flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl. Knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. Add in the cheese and green chiles, then add more flour if needed for the dough to pull together. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it in half. Shape each section into a loaf and place in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise until doubled, 45 minutes to an hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350F. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove the bread from the pans to cool completely.
