HERMIT COOKIES W/ RAISINS AND NUTS
I ran across this recipe in one of my mom's old magazines. Thought it sounded interesting, checked to make sure I had all the ingredients on hand and made them over the weekend. My kids really loved these cookies. The nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon really gives it that zip. I used walnuts in stead of pecans, just a personal choice. I am making these for our family reunion on the 22nd. Even though I am hostessing the reunion again, I still like to bring something to nibble on. Last year it was my grandmother's cinnamon pies this year it is cookies. I Hope you enjoy them.

Steps:
- Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs one at a time; beat until light.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg; add to creamed mixture.
- Fold in raisins and nuts; mix well.
- Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets.
- Bake at 350° for about 10 minutes.

HERMIT COOKIES
This version of this delicious cookie is quite different than the others already posted. With an old fashioned flavour they will have your kids coming back for more. It's my husband's favorite cookie!

Steps:
- Mix the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, raisins and nuts in a bowl. Cream 2 cups sugar, margarine and eggs in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in the molasses. Add the flour mixture and mix well. Chill, covered, for 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 325*F.
- Shape the dough into fingersize pieces. Roll in sugar. Arrange on greased cookie sheets.
- Bake for 7 minutes. Cool on wire racks.

- Mix brown sugar, margarine, shortening, coffee, egg, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Stir in remainingingredients.
- Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake until almost no indentation remains when touched, 8 to 10 minutes.
- Immediately remove from cookie sheet.

- Cream butter and brown sugar in large bowl. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla. Beat until smooth.
- Combine next 7 ingredients in a medium bowl. Add to butter mixture in 3 additions, mixing well after each addition until no dry flour remains.
- Add remaining 3 ingredients. Mix well. Drop, using 1 1/2 tbsp for each, about 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheets. Bake in 375 F oven for 6-8 minutes until golden. Let stand for 5 minutes. Remove to wire racks to cool.

- In a large bowl combine flour, baking soda and baking powder.
- Add butter, egg and vanilla.
- Mix until thoroughly blended.
- Roll dough into walnut sized balls and place 2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
- Press down slightly with the heal of your hand to flatten.
- Bake at 350ºF for 11 to 13 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

Tasty hermits made yummy with chopped apple, dried apricots or raisins. This batter is quite thick and I spread the cookies slightly after dropping on the baking sheet. A tiny old clipping from a newspaper posted for safe keeping, My kids loved these little hermit cookies!
