HONEY APPLE GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH

A spicy-sweet, tasty sandwich with a surprise twist: honey mustard! I made this for my husband as a quick lunch.

Honey Apple Grilled Cheese Sandwich image

Steps:

  • Slice rustic roll in half.
  • Using one tablespoon of margarine, spread on each half of roll.
  • Spread one tbsp of honey each half of roll.
  • Using one tablespoon of honey mustard, spread on each half of roll.
  • Using one tablespoon of margarine, spread on the outside of each half of roll.
  • Put a slice of muenster cheese on the bottom half of roll, top with apple slices, put another slice of muenster cheese, and top with top half of the roll.
  • Put sandwich in a nonstick skillet over medium/low heat. Cook for approximately 30 seconds to a minute on one side, then flip to the other side.
  • The sandwich is done when the bread is browned, but not burned, and the apple/cheese is starting to caramelize.
  • If you want the cheese to be more melted and the sandwich to be soft, put the sandwich on a microwaveable plate in the microwave for thirty seconds.
  • Enjoy with chips and carrot sticks.

Steps:

  • First core your apple, and cut it in half.
  • Slice very thin slices from the end of one half, until you have enough to cover your bread (not overlapping. Now take your shallot, and shave paper thin slices, about 4 or 5- reserve rest of shallot for another use. Then take your garlic clove, and shave paper thin slices of garlic from the clove, about 4 or 5 slices, reserve rest of garlic for ).
  • Heat 1/2 tablespoon butter and lightly fry the apple, shallot and garlic. Fry for about 2 minutes and then remove to a plate.
  • Take one slice of bread, butter one side, and then salt it and place it in the pan, and continue by placing 1 slice of cheese on the bread, layer the apple slices evenly over the piece of bread and randomly place the garlic and shallot pieces, place other piece of cheese on top, and then take second piece of bread, butter and salt one side, and place it on top of the cheese slice, butter side up.
  • Fry the sandwich over medium heat until browned on both sides, pressing down on the sandwich whiling cooking to slightly flatten it out; When browned nicely, cut in half and serve.

Steps:

  • In an 8-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crisp, about 5 minutes. Tear in half and set aside.
  • Into the same skillet, add the brown sugar, onions and 1 tablespoon of the butter. Cook, stirring as needed, until the onions are golden, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • Build the grilled cheese by spreading one piece of bread with the mayonnaise. Sprinkle half of the grated cheese on top, followed by the onions. Place the apple slices and bacon on top of the onions, then add the rest of the cheese. Spread the other slice of bread with the mustard and put it mustard-side down on top of the cheese. Spread the outside of the top bread slice with 1 tablespoon butter.
  • Transfer the sandwich to the skillet over medium-low heat, butter-side down. Spread the top of the sandwich with the remaining tablespoon butter. Toast each side of the sandwich until golden on the outside and the cheese is melted, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Cut in half and serve.

  • Preheat a griddle over medium-high heat.
  • Lay the bacon strips on the griddle. Cook the bacon until browned and crisp. Drain the bacon on paper towels and reserve the bacon fat.
  • To build your grilled cheese, place 1/4 cup of the cheese on the bottom of a slice of bread. Top with 2 slices bacon, 4 slices apple, some arugula, 1/4 cup more of the cheese and another slice of bread. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.

  • Lightly butter one side of each slice of bread.
  • Melt 2 teaspoons of the remaining butter in a 10-inch nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Place 2 slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet, top each slice with about 1/4 cup of blue cheese and several slices of apple, and place another slice of bread on top, buttered side up. Fontina and Mozzarella Grilled Cheese with Bacon and Honeycrisp Apples image

Steps:

  • Cook the bacon in a large saute pan over medium heat until brown and crispy on both sides. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels and reserve.
  • Preheat a griddle or nonstick saute pan to medium. Between two pieces of paper towels, pat dry the mozzarella.
  • Spread each piece of bread with a thin, even layer of butter. Spread the other side of each piece of bread with Dijon. Lay the bread down with the Dijon sides facing up on a baking sheet.
  • Place one slice of fontina, one slice of mozzarella and then another slice of fontina on each piece of bread. Lay 3 bacon slices on half of the slices of the cheese-lined bread. Top the bacon with an even layer of apple slices (these are the bottoms, the ones with just cheese are the tops--together they make a pair!).
  • Place the tops and bottoms on the griddle butter-side down and cook until the bread gets brown and crusty and the cheese begins to melt, 5 to 7 minutes. When the cheese is nice and melty, flip the tops onto the bottoms so the cheese is on the inside. Give each sandwich a press, flip over and cook for 1 to 2 minutes more.
  • Cut the sandwiches in half on the bias and serve hot.
