Tay's Hot and Spicy Salsa image

Steps:

  • Put everything but the tomatoes in a food processor. Chop until diced. Add the tomatoes. Serve with chips.
  • Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

2 fresh jalapenos
1 bunch fresh cilantro leaves
1 clove garlic
1 banana pepper
1 lime, juice
1 teaspoon House Seasoning, recipe follows
1 can diced tomatoes
Tortilla chips, for serving
1 cup salt
1/4 cup black pepper

Steps:

Steps:

  • Bring a medium pot of water to a boil and cook tomatoes and garlic 2 minutes. Drain and rinse with cool water. Peel and core tomatoes.
  • In a food processor or blender, blend first seven ingredients until mostly smooth. Transfer tomato mixture to a mixing bowl and fold in cilantro and onion. Taste, adjust seasoning, and serve.

  • In a Dutch oven, bring 2 quarts water to a boil. Using a slotted spoon, place tomatoes, a few at a time, in boiling water for 30-60 seconds.   • Preheat the broiler and set an oven rack about 5 inches beneath the heating element. Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • Place the tomatoes, onions, garlic, whole serrano chile peppers and vegetable oil directly on the prepared baking sheet and toss with your hands. Broil until softened and charred, 10-15 minutes.
  • Transfer the vegetables and juices to a food processor fitted with the metal blade. (Note: This is a spicy salsa recipe. If you are concerned about the level of heat, add only one Serrano pepper at this point. You can always blend the others in to taste.) Add the salt and cumin and pulse until just slightly chunky.
