Steps:
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Make sure your 10 inch tube pan is clean and dry. Sift flour three times and set aside.
- In a large glass or metal mixing bowl, beat egg whites with salt and cream of tartar until foamy. Gradually add sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form. Blend in vanilla and almond extract. Fold the flour into the whites until no streaks remain. Pour half of the batter into pan. Sprinkle with half of the cherries. Fill pan with remaining batter and top with remaining cherries.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 50 minutes. Invert pan and allow to hang until cake cools.

- Butter a springform of about 24 cm/ 9.5 inches. Sprinkle it with 1-2 tablespoons ground almonds, shake the tin to coat it with the almonds all over. Turn it over the sink and pat gently to remove the excess nuts. Or use any of the other methods described in the blog post. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius/ 320 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Pit the cherries if using fresh. Defrost and drain frozen or canned ones. Pat them dry with kitchen paper.
- In a large bowl, beat the soft butter and the sugar until pale and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and lemon juice and stir to incorporate them. Add the eggs, one by one, beating well in between.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, ground almonds, baking powder, and salt. Add them gradually to the egg mixture, alternating with the sour cream.
