Steps:

  • Place cheese in an small ungreased cast-iron skillet or shallow 1-qt. baking dish. Bake at 375° until edges of cheese just begin to melt, 5-7 minutes. , Meanwhile, in a small skillet, saute pecans in butter until toasted. Drizzle caramel over cheese; sprinkle with pecans. Serve with apple wedges.

  • In a shallow bowl, combine the parsley, thyme, rosemary and oregano. Spread mustard over cheese blocks; roll in herbs to coat. , On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry to about 13 in. long (or long enough to fit cheese blocks end to end). Place cheese on pastry and fold pastry around cheese; trim excess dough. Pinch edges to seal. Place seam side down on an ungreased baking sheet. , Brush pastry with egg.   • Place 2 layers of cheese on top of the rectangle.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Boil water and cook the pasta as directed on the package.
  • Coat a medium sized frying pan with the olive oil.
  • Cut the sausage into meatball sized slices and place in the medium sized frying pan.
  • Fry the sausage on medium-low heat until cooked 3/4 of the way through.
  • Slice up the onion into small pieces and add into the frying pan, cook until the sausage is done.
  • Transfer the onion and sausage into a medium sized pot, add the spaghetti sauce and the garlic.
  • Cover the sauce and heat until it's warm.
  • Drain the pasta and stir in the sauce mix.
  • Transfer everything into a large casserole dish
  • Get your cheeses, place the slices of Havarti on top of the pasta in one or two layers.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cheeses evenly on top.
  • Sprinkle the parsley evenly over the cheeses.

Steps:

  • Cut ciabatta into 8 even slices (4 tops and 4 bottoms). Spread 1 tablespoon of roasted garlic purée onto each of the 4 bottoms. Place 4 ounces of Havarti (1/4 cup) on top of each of the 4 garlic rubbed pieces of bread. Close each with the top half of the bread.
  • Place each of the prepared sandwiches in a frying pan over medium heat. Cook about 3-4 minutes on the first side. Turn carefully and cook for 2-3 minutes longer on the second side.
  • Coat heads well with olive oil and place in 350°F. oven for approximately 1 hour. When cooled, squeeze garlic from cloves and purée or mash with a fork.

  • Defrost puff pastry sheet. Wrap havarti cheese in puff pastry sheet, place seam down on baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake at 325 for 25-30 minutes or until puff pastry is golden brown. Remove and place on serving platter.

HAVARTI CHEESE PASTRY

My mom used to make this as a special treat when we were little. It is sort of like the Brie pastry but she never cared for Brie so she swapped it. It's so easy and pleases everyone. Very rich and creamy it is perfect for an appetizer or party. You can also buy havarti cheese with various spices and herbs mixed in to switch it up a little bit. The havarti with dill is divine. If the cheese leaks out, which it occasionally will even if you think you sealed it well, that is okay. Just scoop it off the pan and pile it on top. It is not as pretty but just as tasty ;) Prep time is to let pastry thaw. Enjoy!

Havarti Cheese Pastry image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • Lay the puff pastry on the counter or any flat surface at room temperature to thaw for about 30 minutes, or put it in the fridge overnight so it will be thaw when you are ready.
  • Carefully unfold the sheet and smooth the creases. Make sure there are no holes in the dough.
  • Place the whole block of cheese in the middle and very gently fold the pastry around it like a present, making sure to seal it well. Wet your fingers and run them across the seams to make the dough adhere to itself and to ensure no cheese leaks out.
  • Flip it over on a greased baking sheet seam side down. Whisk together the egg and water and brush lightly over the surface. Sprinkle with paprika to make it pretty.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until top is golden brown.
  • Serve on your favorite cracker, I prefer Ritz.
  • *If desired, spread the mustard on the pastry sheet before placing the cheese on it and folding for a little extra flavor.*.
