Steps:
- Preheat oven to 425 deg.
- Using a mixer; combine flour, baking powder & soda in the bowl.
- Add shortening slowly and process until it resembles cornmeal.
- Add yogurt and mix until combined.
- Add honey & parsley and mix through.
- Roll out for even cooking. Can use cutters for shapes or just cut into bars.
- Place on cookie sheet & bake 10-14min, or until they start to brown.
- Allow to come to room temp then place in airtight containers &/or refrigerate.
- Will last at room temp for approx 6 days, keep in fridge for longevity.
- I recommend 1/2" by 1" bars for small & med dogs or 1" by 2" for large breeds. Even smaller pieces are great for training!

FRESH BREATH DOG BISCUITS
These are packed with parsley to make your dog's breath smell great and they boast a stack of vitamin C and iron as well. My dog LOVES them. Sometimes I substitute pumpkin for the carrot. The water used will vary for every batch. Taken from Australia's Dr Harry's recipe.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Lightly grease 2 baking trays or line with baking paper.
- In a small bowl mix parsley, carrot, cheese and oil. In another bowl stir together flour, bran and baking powder. Then add the parsley mixture and stir well.
- Gradually add 1/2 cup water. Mix well, adding more water, if needed, to make the dough moist. Knead for 1 minute on a floured surface.
- Roll dough until it is 1cm thick. Use a small cookie cutter (bone shaped) or glass to cut as many bikkies as you can, re-rolling the scraps.
- Bake for 20-30 mins, or until biscuits are brown. Allow to cool on rack. These will harden as they cool.
- Store in airtight container for up to 2 months.

- Give fresh dog bones from the butcher – I give my dog a large raw beef bone to chew on every now and then (roughly a couple times each month). I get them from our local butcher.
- Brush your dog’s teeth – I use a finger brush to brush my dog’s teeth. Even though he absolutely loves the beef-flavored doggie toothpaste, I honestly don’t do this as frequently as I should.
- Give homemade dog breath treats – Instead of making ‘regular’ homemade dog treats, you can freshen your dog’s breath at the same time by including specific ingredients that are known to do this.
- Use dog mouthwash (a drinking water additive) – For us, adding a dog-friendly drinking water alternative worked really well at first, but then the results sort of fizzled.
- Minty Herbal Dog Treats. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. 1 cup water (or use chicken broth or beef broth instead) 2 cups flour. 1/2 cup oats. 2 tablespoons fresh mint.
