SIMPLE TERIYAKI SAUCE

This simple but amazing teriyaki sauce will take your chicken and rice to the next level!

Simple Teriyaki Sauce image

Steps:

  • Combine 1 cup water, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, ginger, and garlic powder in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until nearly heated through, about 1 minute.
  • Mix cornstarch and 1/4 cold water together in a cup; stir until dissolved. Add to the saucepan. Cook and stir sauce until thickened, 5 to 7 minutes.

This recipe comes from a copycat recipe site. I havn't made it yet so I don't know if it good or not. Wanted to add to my cookbooks for safe keeping. Update: Made, and it is so good, just like the restaurant sauce. I made a double batch and keep in the fridge so anytime I want to just pull out a steak or chicken breast I have it ready to go. Next time I make this I won't add the sesame seeds to the sauce but just sprinkle on individual steaks. Since I made a double batch and only used as needed, the seeds got soggy, but it "did" keep very well in the fridge.

Steps:

  • Heat first 8 ingredients (soy through white sugar) until sugar dissolves. Add brown sugar, cornstarch and water mixture. Simmer until thickened. Simmering time will be 10 to 15 minutes depending on thickness of sauce desired.
  • * I found the sesame seed got a little soggy so I just will toast them and sprinkle on finished product instead of incorporating them in the sauce. If you are using all the sauce immediately go ahead and follow original directions. I made a double batch since I wanted to keep this on hand in the fridge.

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Preheat a grill pan over high heat until smoking. Brush the steaks with olive oil and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Grill for 4 to 5 minutes on one side until golden brown, turn over, reduce heat to medium and continue cooking for 5 to 6 minutes for medium-rare doneness.
  • Whisk together the vinegar and mustard in a small bowl. Slowly whisk in the olive oil and season with salt and pepper to taste. Toss the watercress in a few tablespoons of the dressing and arrange on a platter. Top with slices of the tomatoes and onions and drizzle with the remaining dressing. Sprinkle with the blue cheese.

Steps:

  • In a saucepan coated lightly with oil over high heat, sauté the onions, ginger and dried cranberries until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the orange zest and juice, naturally brewed soy sauce, cranberry juice, and sugar and bring to a simmer. Reduce by 50 percent over low heat, about 10 to 15 minutes. Check for flavor. Immediately, transfer to a blender and blend until almost smooth (with small bits is preferable), drizzling in oil. Do not blend until super smooth. Check for flavor and adjust seasonings. Let come to room temperature, then transfer to a glass jar, seal and store in fridge for up to two weeks.

Cover the dish with plastic wrap.If using a sealed plastic bag to marinate, place the fish pieces into the bag and pour the marinade in. Remove most of the air from the bag and seal. Gently massage the fillets in the bag with the sauce, making sure that all of them are evenly coated. Place fish in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours, up to 24 hours.
  • When ready to prepare, place a rack about 6 inches from you oven’s broiler element and preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Pour 2 tbsp of olive oil into an oven-safe nonstick skillet, brushing the bottom of the skillet to make sure it is fully coated with oil. Make sure your skillet has a metal handle; plastic handles will not tolerate the high oven heat.
  • Take the marinated fish out of the refrigerator. Place the fillets skin-side down in your oiled skillet.Place fish in the oven and let it cook for 10-14 minutes until fish is cooked through, opaque white and flaky. Cook time will vary based on the thickness of your fillets.
