THE BEST CARAMEL APPLES
When I was searching for a recipe to make homemade caramel apples for the very first time, a close friend gave me this amazing and fairly easy recipe. My family and friends loved these delicious treats! Sprinkle with nuts or whatever you desire while the caramel is still warm (work quickly, the caramel sets VERY fast).

- Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil. Dip apples in boiling water for a few seconds, then dry with paper towels to remove any wax from the peels. Set apples aside; when completely cool, insert a wooden chopstick firmly into the bottom of each apple for a handle.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Stir butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk together in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and reduce heat to medium. Cook until a candy thermometer reads 248 degrees F (120 degrees C), 25 to 30 minutes; stir constantly to prevent burning. A teaspoon of the syrup, dropped in a glass of cold water, should form a firm ball. Remove caramel from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Working quickly, dip each apple into the hot caramel to completely coat the apple and about 1/2 inch of the wooden handle. Sprinkle apples with any desired toppings while still hot. Let caramel apples cool on the parchment paper. Use caution, caramel is very hot.

- Preheat oven to 375°. In a large saucepan, combine the first 6 ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, 15-20 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring occasionally. Cool completely., Unfold puff pastry onto a large sheet of parchment; roll into a 16x12-in. rectangle. Transfer parchment and pastry to a baking sheet, placing a short side of the rectangle facing you. Using a slotted spoon, arrange apples on bottom half of pastry to within 1 in. of edges. Drizzle apples with caramel topping. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with the bottom side. Pinch seams to seal, and tuck ends under. , In a small bowl, whisk egg with water; brush over pastry. Sprinkle with coarse sugar. Cut slits in top. Bake 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. If desired, serve with whipped cream and additional caramel topping.

- Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Put the apples into a saucepan with a splash of water, cover, then cook over a high heat for 4-5 mins, stirring now and then until just soft. Stir in 3 tbsp of the caramel, then tip into small ovenproof dishes. Dot small spoonfuls of caramel cream over the apples until only 1 tbsp is left.
- Mix the flour and oats together, then rub in the butter with your fingers until you have a crumbly mixture. Stir in the remaining caramel, then scatter over the apples. Bake for 18-20 mins until golden and crisp on top.

- Spray counter lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Combine 8 dinner rolls into a ball and roll into a 6x16-inch rectangle. Repeat with remaining rolls. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest.In a large bowl combine apples, caramels, brown sugar, 1/2 cup almonds, cinnamon and flour. Remove wrap from dough.Divide apple mixture equally between the two rectangles and spread down the center of each rectangle. Fold both edges of each rectangle over the filling, overlapping slightly, and pinch together to seal.Place both filled rectangles on a sprayed baking sheet and carefully braid them together. Press ends together. Cover with sprayed plastic wrap and let rise 15-20 minutes.Remove wrap and bake at 350°F 25-30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly. Microwave vanilla icing for 10 seconds. Drizzle over twist and sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup of almonds.
