Steps:
- Simple syrup: Combine all ingredients together in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Whisk constantly until the sugar dissolves. Let simmer for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool completely. You can store this in the refrigerator for several days. Bursting cranberries: Add the cranberries and water to a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the water is simmering and the cranberries are bursting, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat. Punch: Stir the ingredients together gently and taste. All ginger beers are different, so you may want to add more simple syrup or more cider. Serve the punch over crushed ice and garnish with the cranberries.

FRESH CRANBERRY PUNCH
One of the best things about holiday cooking is the aromas that drift through the whole house! To me, it wouldn't be Christmas without the tang of oranges, cinnamon and cloves in the air-just what you'll smell as this fresh cranberry punch is simmering. To get the brightest red color in your punch, be sure to pick out the reddest of the fresh berries as you clean them.

WARM CIDER CRANBERRY PUNCH
I first made this at an instructional cooking camp. My kids loved it so much that, for a time, they insisted we make it every day. Serve it hot in the winter or with the ice during the summer. -Carol Gehringer, Raleigh, North Carolina
