A popular, easy, and flavorful way to cook a small ham for the holidays, a dinner party or to have ham for sandwiches, soups or casseroles.

Steps:

  • Remove ham from packaging.
  • Lightly score ham in diagonal lines first one way, then crosswise, to form a diamond pattern, being careful not to cut any deeper than about a eighth of an inch. (You can score both sides if you like).
  • Make a paste of brown sugar and mustard (I used Boar's Head Honey Mustard).
  • Rub paste into ham on sides that have been lightly scored.
  • Transfer to crock pot.
  • Pour in two cans of coca cola into bottom of pot, not pouring directly over ham to wash away brown sugar paste.
  • Cook on low 7-8 hours.

  • Reserve remaining cola.
  • Run entire ham with mixture.

  • Turn to LOW setting for 6-7 hours.

Steps:

  • Sort beans and soak in enough water to cover overnight.
  • Or you may sort them and place in a saucepan with 2-inches of water to cover.
  • Bring them to a boil, boil for 3 minutes, then cover and remove from heat.
  • Allow to sit for one hour after boiling (don't lift the lid).
  • Whichever method you use, rinse and drain the beans before placing them in the crock pot.
  • Put the rinsed beans, garlic, onion, salt, pepper, parsley, cloves, ham (chopped into large chunks) or ham hocks into the crock pot along with 6 cups water or broth.
  • Cover crock, and cook on low for about 8 hours, or until beans are tender and creamy.
  • Skim any excess fat, if necessary, before serving.

A while ago someone asked for a recipe for crock pot ham, Diana Neal suggested doing it with pineapple and brown sugar so last night I experimented and this recipe is the result. Mitchell hams are a small solid ham but you can adjust this recipe to accommodate any size or type of ham Do not over cook it. The raisin sauce is so easy and tastes great. Since this is a first try recipe I would ask anyone that tries this recipe to please send in comments and any adjustments that you make I feel it has a way to go before it is just right.

Steps:

  • Mix the first four ingredients in a pot and cook on medium until all of the sugar is dissolved.
  • Place the ham in a crock pot. (if the ham is to large for your crock pot it can be cut into smaller pieces).
  • Pour the prepared mixture of cola, sugar, and butter over the ham.
  • Place your crock pot on low and allow to cook over night (at least 8 hrs)! (If you are in more of a rush place the crock pot on high and allow to cook for 4-5 hours)
  • When your ham is done remove it from the crock pot and cut it small pieces! Poor most of the juice into a bowl and return your ham to the crock pot and place on warm until ready to serve! ( if you do this try to make sure that your ham does not get to dry) Enjoy!
