ICED ORANGE COOKIES
I usually make these bite-size orange cookies at Christmastime, when oranges in Florida are plentiful, but they're delicious any time of year. Every time I sniff their wonderful aroma, I remember my grandmother, who shared the recipe. -Lori DiPietro, New Port Richey, Florida

- In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in orange juice and zest. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. , Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 in. apart onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Remove to wire racks to cool. In a small bowl, combine icing ingredients until smooth; drizzle over cooled cookies.

- Add orange rind and juice; beat well.
- Combine flour, baking powder, soda, and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture, beating well.
- Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets; bake at 350 degrees for 14-16 minutes or until edges just begin to brown.
- Cool on wire racks.
- Spread tops of cookies with orange glaze.
- Orange Glaze: Combine all ingredients; beat until smooth.

- Preheat oven to 325°. In a bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg yolks and buttermilk. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with orange juice and zest. Add egg whites and beat until smooth. , Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake until set, about 10 minutes. - 1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine all cookie ingredients and mix well. Drop by heaping teaspoons full onto greased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 minutes.
- 2. Mix powdered sugar with enough orange juice to form a glaze type icing. Add left over orange rind from making cookies and food coloring if used. Spread on warm cookies.
