CHILL OUT FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE
We serve this in our ice cream parlor and it's very popular. I know there's another frozen hot chocolate recipe here, but this one is different, as it's made with hot cocoa mix.

Steps:
- Pour milk into blender.
- Add hot cocoa mix and ice.
- Blend first at low speed and then high speed until ice is finely crushed and slushy.
- Pour into tall glass and top with whipped cream and a dusting of hot cocoa mix, if desired.
- Serve with a straw and enjoy!
- P.S. This recipe was originally posted using small ice cubes. At our shop we have a commercial blender that has no problem getting through these. Since most people have regular blenders, I have changed it to crushed ice.
FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE
Oprah recently featured this treat as one of her favorite things. I ordered the mix from Serendipity in NYC. The food editor from our local paper went in search of the recipe after numerous requests from readers and here it is--straight from Serendipity 3 restaurant. When my mix arrives, I'll let you know how this recipe compares to the real deal.

Steps:
- Place a double boiler over medium heat. Add both cocoa powders, the sugar and butter. Whisk until cocoas and sugar have melted and creamed together with the butter. Add a little of the milk. Add chocolates, whisking as they melt. Slowly pour in additional milk, reserving one cup milk for next step. Whisk until mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
- In a blender, make three servings at a time. Add 1/2 cup chocolate base, 1/2 cup milk and about 2 cups crushed ice. Blend until smooth, adding more ice or liquid as needed to reach a perfect texture. Repeat with remaining ingredients or store any unused chocolate base in the refrigerator, covered. Pour frozen hot chocolate into large goblets and top with whipped cream and grated chocolate. Serve immediately with a straw and a long spoon.

FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE
Steps:
- Break the bittersweet chocolate into pieces and place it in a medium bowl set over a pot of simmering water, stirring occasionally, until just melted. Off the heat, whisk in the cocoa powder, sugar, and half-and-half and set aside.
- Place 3/4 cup of the milk, 2 tablespoons of the coffee liqueur, 1/2 teaspoon of the vanilla, and half of the chocolate mixture in a blender. Add 2 cups of the ice and blend for several minutes, until the mixture is thick but not icy, like a frozen daiquiri. (You can add a little more milk or ice if it's too thick or too thin.) Pour into two (10-ounce) ice cream soda glasses and top each with a generous dollop of whipped cream and some grated chocolate. Repeat for the second two glasses. Serve ice cold with straws and long-handled spoons.
- Place the cream, sugar, and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment and beat on high speed until the cream forms very soft peaks (don't overbeat or the cream will be too firm).
