Steps:

  • Combine garlic, butter, and oil in a microwave safe dish or in a small saucepan. Heat garlic and butter and oil in microwave for 1 minute or in a small pot over moderate-low heat for 3 minutes.
  • Toast split bread under broiler. Remove bread when it is toasted golden brown in color. Brush bread liberally with garlic oil. Sprinkle with cheese, if using, and parsley. If you added cheese, return to broiler and brown 30 seconds. Cut into chunks and serve.

The Best Garlic Bread image

Steps:

  • Arrange a rack in the center of oven and preheat to 450 degrees F.
  • Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter is golden and the garlic is very fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  • Slice the bread in half lengthwise. Liberally brush the crust with the garlic butter. Turn the bread cut-side up. Slice each loaf crosswise at 2-inch intervals without cutting all the way through, making "pull-apart" garlic bread. Liberally brush the cut sides of the bread with more garlic butter, spreading any remaining garlic evenly over top. You should use all the garlic butter. Carefully transfer the bread to a rimmed baking sheet.
  • Sprinkle the loaves with the Parmesan and a pinch of salt and bake until the edges of the bread are a deep golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Top with the parsley. Serve warm.

JEN'S MISTAKE - AKA HERBED GINGER & GARLIC BREAD

I was busy making what I thought was a garlic butter to spread on my french bread when I thought I'd better taste it to see if it needed more garlic. Well, I thought it did, so I kept adding more and more......til I saw that the jar I was using was actually ginger LOL......I then grabbed the right jar and added in the garlic & herbs & after tasting decided it was ok :) At the time I was making a large amount for a crowd but have scaled it back to post. Use more or less of the ginger & garlic to suit your taste. One advantage I did find was that as so often happens with garlic bread this didn't 'repeat' on me :) I now use this all the time and the family all ask for "that 'mistake' garlic bread" LOL :)

Jen's Mistake - Aka Herbed Ginger & Garlic Bread image

Steps:

  • Slice the french loaf hoizontally through the middle, then cut both halves into wide slices and place them on a baking paper lined tray. (saves on the washing up!).
  • Add the salt, garlic and ginger to the softened butter and mix with a fork to beat it in well.
  • Add in the parsley and basil and mix well.
  • Spread onto the slices of bread and place the tray in a mod oven (350'F/175'C) and bake for about 10 - 15 minutes
  • Don't over cook as they will be too crunchy (unless you like them that way), they should be crispy on the outside but soft in the middle and easy to eat.

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Place the garlic in the bowl of a food processor and process until minced. Add the parsley, oregano, salt and pepper and pulse twice.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Mix the cheeses with the mayonnaise, 1/4 stick of the softened butter and the green onions. Add the salt and pepper to taste and set aside or keep in the fridge until you need it.
  • Melt the remaining 1 stick butter in a skillet over medium-low heat and add the garlic. Cook for a couple of minutes to release the garlic flavor.

  • Slice loaf, LEAVING CRUST INTACT, into slices.
  • It is important NOT to slice through the bottom.
  • Set aside.
  • Mix butter with other ingredients.
  • Allow to sit on counter a while, so flavors travel all through the butter.
  • Take a length of foil, and place loaf lengthwise on the foil.
  • Very gently, spread slices apart, being careful not to break bottom, and spread with butter mixture.
  • When all slices are spread, use any leftover butter to spread the top of the loaf.
  • Wrap sides of foil up.
  • Leave top UNCOVERED.
  • Twist ends of foil.

  • Measure the flour, yeast and salt into a large bowl. Mix 300ml hand-hot water with the oil and honey in a jug, then pour into the dry mix, stirring all the time to make a soft dough.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, then knead for 5 mins until the dough no longer feels sticky, sprinkling with a little more flour as you need it. Now stretch it to fit the Swiss roll tin.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Take a piece of foil and place whole garlic cloves in it, coating with a generous amount of olive oil.
  • Wrap tightly.
  • Bake until done, 20 min to 1/2 hour.
  • Cloves will be done when sweet smelling, soft and golden brown.
  • Split bread lengthwise.
  • Remove excess dough.
  • Mash roasted garlic with all other ingredients except cheeses.
  • Spread cut surfaces of bread with butter mixture.
  • Sprinkle with parmesan and layer bottom half with mozzarella.
  • Press halves together and wrap tightly in foil.
  • Bake at 350 degrees until outer crust is crispy and cheese is melted, about 15 minutes.

  • I like it just as it is, crispy outside, moist and chewy (and slightly saturated!) inside, but you could bake this open faced on a cookie sheet for a crisper texture.
