Thrill partygoers with these bone-chilling deviled eggs. The mayonnaise-filled bites are one of my favorite apps, so I had fun creating a Halloween version. -Nick Iverson, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

ROTTEN DEVILED EGGS
All eyes on these avocado deviled egg hors d'oeuvres that double as ghoulish Halloween decorations for your spooktacular party.

Time 2h50m
Yield 24 deviled eggs
Number Of Ingredients 11
Steps:
- Arrange the eggs in one layer in a large, heavy-bottomed pot, add enough water to cover the eggs by 1 inch and bring to a boil. Cover the pot, remove from the heat and let the eggs sit in the hot water for about 12 minutes. Rinse under cold water and let the eggs cool to room temperature.
- Combine the red food coloring with the vinegar and 4 cups water in a medium bowl. Roll the eggs on the counter to crackle the shells, then transfer them to the bowl with the food coloring. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- With gloved hands, remove the eggs from the dye and peel. Halve each egg lengthwise, then scoop the yolks into a food processor and set the whites aside on a plate. Add the sour cream, cilantro, cayenne, avocado, lime juice and 1 teaspoon kosher salt to the yolks and process until the mixture is smooth and light.
- Spoon or pipe the yolk mixture into the egg whites. Top each with an olive slice with a piece of pimento stuck in the center for a ghoulish eye.
HALLOWEEN DEVILED TEA EGGS

Steps:
- Combine 7 cups water, the soy sauce, chili oil, tea leaves, five-spice powder, 2 teaspoons salt and the sugar in a medium pot over high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Turn off the heat, uncover and let cool completely.
- Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Gently add the eggs and cook for 7 minutes. Remove the eggs and transfer to a bowl of ice water; let stand until cool to the touch.
- Once the eggs have cooled, lightly crack the shells all over. The goal here is to make enough cracks to allow the flavor of the soy sauce mixture to steep into the egg. (You can also put them on a kitchen towel and roll gently.) Add the cracked eggs to the soy sauce mixture, making sure they are completely submerged. Refrigerate for 24 hours.
- Peel the eggs. Cut a small piece off the wide bottom of each egg so it will sit flat, then cut off the top. Scoop out the egg yolks into a small bowl and mash them up with a fork. Stir in the mayonnaise, mustard, Sriracha, a pinch of salt and a few grinds of pepper. Tint orange with food coloring.
- Pipe or scoop the filling into the egg whites. Sprinkle with black sesame seeds. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Steps:
- Place all of the eggs into a large pot so they can rest on the bottom in a single layer. Fill with just enough cold water to cover the eggs. Bring to a boil, then cover, remove from the heat and let stand for about 15 minutes. Rinse under cold water or add some ice to the water and let the eggs cool completely. Peel and slice in half lengthwise.
- Remove the yolks from the eggs and place them in a bowl. Mix in the relish, mayonnaise, celery salt, mustard, and food coloring. Spoon this filling into the egg whites and place them on a serving tray. Round the top of the filling using the spoon. Place an olive slice on each yolk to create the center of the eye. Dab a tiny bit of mayonnaise in the center of the olive as a finishing touch.
