Steps:

  • Preheat an oiled grill pan over medium heat.
  • Mix the teriyaki and sweet chile sauce in a bowl and set aside.
  • Brush the chicken with 1 tablespoon olive oil and lightly sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place the chicken on the grill. Brush the tops with the teriyaki-chile mixture and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, then flip. Brush the tops with the rest of the sauce and cook until cooked through, 4 minutes more. Just before they are done, flip them over again for a final minute to caramelize. Remove the chicken to a plate.
  • Oil the grill pan again if necessary, then add the pineapple and peppers. Cook until nice grill marks have formed, about 2 minutes per side. Remove.
  • Add the rice to the bottoms of 4 bowls. Slice the chicken and fan along the edge of each bowl. Fill the open space with the grilled peppers, pineapple and diced avocado. Garnish with the cilantro, sesame seeds and a slice of lime.

1 tablespoons olive oil, plus extra for the grill pan
3/4 cup teriyaki sauce
2 tablespoons sweet chile sauce
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 pineapple, peeled, cored and cut into rings
12 mini sweet peppers, left whole
2 cups cooked jasmine rice, warm
2 avocados, diced
1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
2 limes, sliced

13 DELICIOUS HAWAIIAN FOODS YOU NEED TO EAT RIGHT NOW

From buzzfeed.com
  • Poi. What it is: Poi is a sticky paste made by mashing taro (kalo) root, and tastes delicious mixed with almost any item on the Hawaiian plate. Taro is the low-calorie staple that ancient Hawaiians ate with most meals; it was considered the life force.
  • Lomi Salmon. What it is: This dish is made with cured raw salmon that's diced and mixed with tomatoes, onions, and occasionally hot peppers. Lomi salmon is made entirely of post-contact ingredients: In the late 1700s, whalers and merchants arrived in the islands, bringing with them salted fish, and in 1791 Don Francisco de Paula Marin, an influential Spaniard, came to Hawaii, bringing tomatoes and onions.
  • Lau Lau. What it is: In Hawaiian, lau lau means "leaf leaf," because it is made with layers of ti leaves and taro leaves wrapped around pig and fish. It's slow-cooked in an underground rock oven (imu) for many hours until it is soft and smoky.

From butterwithasideofbread.com
  • Place the chicken tenders in the Crock Pot and then add the pineapple juice, soy sauce and brown sugar. Place the lid on the slow cooker and turn on low for 7-8 hours or 3-4 hours on high.
  • At the end of the cooking time, remove the lid and shred the chicken with two forks. The meat should pull apart very easily and should all be shredded and ready to eat within a few minutes!
  • The sauce is delicious but ends up being pretty thin so if you’d like to thicken up the sauce, that can be done very easily with a little bit of cornstarch and water.About 30 minutes before you are ready to eat, turn the slow cooker to high heat. In a small bowl, mix 2-3 tablepoons of cornstarch with a few tablespoons of cold water. Mix together with a fork until the cornstarch is dissolved and then add to the sauce and chicken. Give a few quick stirs and then replace the lid.The mixture should start bubbling a little bit and will thicken up perfectly in about 20-30 minutes. You can use two forks to shred the chicken – it should pretty much fall apart at this point! Turn the slow cooker to low or warm until ready to serve. For an even thicker sauce, use a little bit more cornstarch with the water before adding to the chicken.
