HONEY CHICKEN WINGS

A recipe I got from a work mate back in the early 80's. Very simple and very tasty. I usually double the quantity as this is really only for 2 people.

Honey Chicken Wings image

Steps:

  • Juice the lemon half. Mix together all the ingredients except for chicken wings.
  • Place chicken wings into a shallow roasting dish and pour on half the marinade. Allow to stand (in fridge) for approximately 20 minutes.
  • Prepare a moderate oven (180C) and cook chicken wings for about 15 minutes. Brush on the remaining marinade and return wings to the oven to complete cooking, approximately 30-35 minutes in all.
  • Serve with green salad and herb bread.

  • Stir onion, honey, brown sugar, soy sauce, butter, mustard powder, and garlic together in a saucepan over medium heat; cook until hot, about 5 minutes.
  • Spread chicken wings in an even layer into a shallow baking dish; pour sauce over the wings.
  • Marinate wings in refrigerate 1 hour to overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Bake the chicken wings, turning occasionally, until no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, about 90 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted near the bone should read 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).

  • Combine honey, vinegar, paprika, salt and pepper in a small bowl., Cut through the 2 wing joints with a sharp knife, discarding wing tips. Add remaining wing pieces and honey mixture to a large bowl; stir to coat. Cover and refrigerate 4 hours or overnight., Preheat oven to 375°. Remove wings; reserve honey mixture. Place wings on greased 15x10x1-in. baking pans. Bake until juices run clear, about 30 minutes, turning halfway through., Meanwhile, place reserved honey mixture in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil; cook 1 minute., Remove wings from oven; preheat broiler. Place wings on a greased rack in a broiler pan; brush with honey mixture.   • Mix flour, garlic powder, pepper, and salt in a small bowl.
  • Coat each chicken wing with a generous layer of the flour mixture.

  • Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 6. Put the chicken wings in a large roasting tin. Mix the honey, soy and 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds in a bowl, then pour over the wings. Use your hands to mix and ensure all the wings are coated, then roast for 20 mins until cooked through, sticky and golden.
  • Meanwhile, combine the soured cream, buttermilk, mayonnaise, lemon juice and paprika. Season well, then chill until ready to serve.
  • When the wings are cooked, scatter over the remaining sesame seeds and the chilli. Serve with the dip, and some carrot and celery sticks for dunking.
