This is another fantastic one pot meal that's very simple to make. This cooking technique can be used with a multitude of other ingredients and combinations including sun dried tomato, mushrooms, peppers, broccoli, olives, chicken, small meatballs, and many more.

Italian Sausage and Penne Pasta, Simple One Pan Meal image

Steps:

  • Sauté garlic in a large frying pan with high sides in the olive oil until tanned. Discard.
  • Cook sausages until just cooked through. Remove sausages to a cutting board. When cooled, slice each retaining their juice.
  • Add the pasta and most of the chicken broth to the pan. Bring it to a boil. Add additional broth or water until absorbed and pasta is cooked al dente.
  • Add the sliced sausages and their juices, Tuscany seasoning and the parmigiana cheese into the hot pan until incorporated.
  • Optional, for a creamy sauce, add cream cheese to desired consistency while the pasta and pan are still hot.

I can't eat pasta much anymore because I'm diabetic but my husband and daughter love it so I keep making it for them. I usually eat salmon (I have one or two good ones for salmon, too- check them out).

Sweet Italian Sausage With Penne Pasta image

Steps:

  • Boil the water and cook the penne according to package directions. DO NOT ever add oil to the water! It will make your sauce slide off the pasta later.
  • Meanwhile, heat the oil (medium-high heat) in a large skillet and saute the broccoli, sausage and garlic until tender and starting to brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Toss the butter, hot pasta, sausage mixture and romano cheese together and serve. Pass the grated cheese at the table.

1 lb penne pasta
1 lb broccoli floret (I use frozen)
8 ounces Italian sausage, cut in bite-size chunks (sweet & mild)
2 tablespoons garlic, minced (you can use less if you want)

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
  • Heat oil in a large, deep skillet. Place sausage and onion in the skillet and cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain excess fat. Pour in wine, and cook for 1 minute, stirring, to deglaze the pan. Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes and tomato paste. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Toss with cooked pasta, and place in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle top with mozzarella.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until cheese is melted.

Steps:

  • Bring large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Cook pasta according to package directions.
  • In a large deep skillet over medium-high heat, add olive oil. Add onion, garlic, Italian seasoning mix and red pepper flakes, if using. Sir frequently and cook until the onions are soft and fragrant, about 3 to 4 minutes. Add sausage and cook for 1 minute. Add can of crushed tomatoes, stirring all the ingredients together to combine. Season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste and let simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in heavy cream and mix well.
  • Drain the pasta and add directly to the skillet with the sauce Toss the pasta to coat with the sauce. Transfer to a serving bowl or platter and garnish with basil leaves. Serve with the cheesy garlic bread.
  • For the cheesy garlic bread:
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Sprinkle cheese and Italian seasoning over garlic bread half. Place on tinfoil lined baking sheet and cook in the oven for 10 to 12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bread is warmed through. Slice and serve.
  • Use the leftover garlic bread from this recipe to make Garlic Bread Pizza.
