JACK-O'-LANTERN ORANGES

This is a great way to get the kids to eat nourishing fruit during the candy-laden Halloween season. They can even help cut up the apples and grapes with plastic knives and decide how they want their fancy orange to look!-Taste of Home Test Kitchen

Jack-o'-Lantern Oranges image

Steps:

  • Choose which side of each orange will be the jack-o'-lantern's face; cut a thin slice from the bottom of each so that it rests flat. Cut another small slice from the top. Spoon out pulp. Chop pulp and combine with apple and grapes; set aside., Cut faces as desired; decorate with cloves and almonds. Spoon fruit mixture into jack-o'-lanterns.

1 small apple, chopped
1/2 cup halved seedless red grapes
Slivered almonds and whole cloves

When I saw a healthful, whole-foods Halloween treat, I had to buy the Taste of Home Halloween Party Favorites. These are cute and yummy! Thick-skinned oranges will work better, I think. And I had to use my knife a bit before scooping the orange pulp out with a spoon.

Steps:

  • Choose the side of each orange that will be the face.
  • If necessary, cut a slice off the bottom of each orange so it will rest flat.
  • Cut a small slice off the top of each and spoon out the pulp.
  • Chop pulp (if necessary) and mix with the apple and grapes; set aside.
  • Cut faces on orange skins and decorate with almonds and cloves.
  • Spoon the fruit salad into the oranges.

Steps:

  • 1. Fill 3½ - to 4-cup container with Keebler® Fudge Stripes™ Dark Chocolate cookie crumbs to form base, if desired. Set aside.
  • 2. Prepare Kellogg's® Eggo® Mini Homestyle waffles according to package directions. Cool for 5 minutes. Press one lollipop stick into each waffle. Cool completely.
  • 3. Use white frosting, chocolate frosting, food coloring, orange sprinkles, green sprinkles, chocolate morsels and marshmallow pieces to decorate waffles as jack-o-lanterns. Press pretzel pieces into each as pumpkin stem. Push lollipops sticks into cookie crumbs to stand upright.

5 Kellogg's® Eggo® Minis Homestyle waffles

Canned white frosting
Canned chocolate frosting

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, beat butter, sugar and vanilla until well blended. Beat in eggs. Combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt; gradually add to butter mixture and mix well. , Line a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan with waxed paper; grease the paper. Spread batter evenly in pan. Bake at 350° for 18-22 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool on a wire rack. , Run a knife around edge of pan. Invert brownies onto a work surface and remove waxed paper. Cut brownies with a 3-in. pumpkin cookie cutter, leaving at least 1/8 in. between each shape. (Discard scraps or save for another use.) , Tint frosting with orange food coloring; frost brownies. Use green gel to create the pumpkin stems and black gel and candy corn and M&M's to decorate the faces if desired.
