Steps:

  • 1. Prepare the Kool-Aid as packet suggests, however, use Splenda instead of regular granulated sugar, or your choice of artificial sweetener.
  • 2. Use any flavor diet soda. (My favorite diet cherry) or get creative, pick any flavor you like.
  • 3. Pour the diet soda of your choice into tall glass or mug filled with ice-cubes. In addition, add as little or as much Kool-Aid as you like (this is the flavor shot). Kind of spices the drink up a bit.

FROSTY FIREWORKS (NON-ALCOHOLIC 4TH OF JULY DRINK)

I got this recipe off the internet while searching for a drink that was red, white and blue to serve at our 4th of July BBQ. This recipe sounded appealing and appropriate for such an occasion. But plan ahead though because it takes several hours for the red and blue ice cubes to freeze. The only special equipment you will need is 2 ice cube trays. Cooking time is approximate time needed for the ice cubes to freeze.

Steps:

  • Fill the sections of one ice cube tray with blue Gatorade, and place in freezer for several hours or until frozen solid.
  • Fill the sections of the other ice cube tray with the red Gatorade (or other red color drink), and place in freezer until frozen solid.
  • When ready to serve, place about 4 or 5 regular (clear) ice cubes in a highball glass or tall tumbler.
  • Add two blue ice cubes and two red ice cubes to the glass.
  • Fill the glass the rest of the way with a clear carbonated soda. I prefer Sprite, but you can use 7-Up, Club Soda, Seltzer water (or try a fruit flavored seltzer), or your favorite lemon-lime soda.
  • Now wait to see the special effects to begin. As the cubes melt, colored bubbles will swirl through the soda and create a sparkling "frosty fireworks" effect.

BLUE BABY SHOWER PUNCH

Posted in response to a request for pastel blue punch on the boards a long while back, I figured I should probably go ahead and post this one officially so the recipe wouldn't get lost. Pink punch is easy enough to make, for little girls, but blue is a bit more elusive. :)

Steps:

  • Mix together the Kool-aid, water, and sugar according to the package directions.
  • In a punchbowl, combine the prepared Kool-aid, thawed Pina Colada mix, and 7-Up or Sprite.
  • Add scoops of vanilla ice cream.
  • Serve and enjoy!
  • Note #1: the Kool-aid company changes it's flavors and colors all the time, so you'll need to investigate what is available when you're making your punch; past flavors/color combinations that worked were Berry Blue and Raspberry Reaction.
  • Note #2: if you make up some ahead of time, you can also freeze a ring of prepared Kool-aid and put it in the punch bowl, or make ice cubes with it and add them into the punch.
  • Note #3: folks have asked me what the Pina Colada mix is for, so I thought I should add it to the recipe. :) It's to make the punch a pastel color, rather than bright blue. It's up to you whether or not you use it, but I think it's tasty!
