Steps:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, red chili flakes, oil, brown sugar, garlic and ginger. In a medium bowl, add pork and pour half of the marinade over it, stirring to combine.
  • In another medium bowl, add onions, and cabbage and pour remaining marinade over top. Let pork and cabbage mixtures stand for 15 minutes at room temperature or for up to one day in the refrigerator.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add pork; breaking it up with the back of a spoon until brown and no pink remains, about 5 minutes. Transfer cooked pork to a bowl.
  • In same skillet, add cabbage mixture with marinade and cook until onions are translucent and cabbage is tender-crisp, about 10 minutes. Return pork to skillet, with any accumulated juices, tossing to combine. Cook for about 5 minutes, until flavours combine.
  • Divide rice into 4 bowls. Top each with pork mixture and serve immediately. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.

1/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes
1 tablespoon sesame oil or 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

2 medium red onions, cut into 1/2 inch wedges

  • Cut the steak into very thin bite-sized pieces and place in a mixing bowl. Peel the garlic, ginger, and pears. Pulse in a food processor until a paste forms. Add the paste to the meat and stir to combine. Cover everything with soy sauce, brown sugar, and sesame oil – just enough to cover and marinate. Your ratio should be roughly 4 parts soy sauce, 4 parts brown sugar, 1 part sesame oil. Mix it all up and refrigerate for 30 minutes or so.
  • Heat a large heavy-duty skillet over very high heat. Discard remaining marinade and add the steak to the pan. Sear for a few minutes, flipping it around once or twice, until your meat has a really nice golden brown exterior. Set aside.
  • Arrange the rice, kimchi, greens, and steak in a bowl. Add the egg on top and sprinkle with sesame seeds, scallions, and Yum Yum Sauce. Mwah! You’re a boss.

  • Combine soy sauce, mirin, maesilaek, sugar, black pepper, garlic and ginger in a mixing bowl or a bowl where you are marinating pork. Mix well until sugar has dissolved completely. Add the pork slices and make sure each slices are coated evenly with the marinade. Let it marinate for 20 minutes to over night.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the pork in the dry pan if you are using non-stick skillet and add some cooking oil if you’re using stainless/cast iron pan.
  • Cook the pork 4 to 5 minutes total and keep moving around to prevent from burning. If the heat is too high, the sauce will burn before the pork is all the way cooked through. Keep moving the pork around will help the pork to cook evenly and brown up evenly.

  • STEAK MARINADE: In a food processor combine the pear, garlic, ginger, and onion and pulse until a thick paste forms. In a large bowl, combine the sliced steak, prepared tenderizer, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and scallions. Stir to coat the meat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for 20- 30 minutes. When ready to cook, heat a large cast iron skillet over high heat. Add the oil and 1/2 the meat (do not add the excess marinade) to the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes or until the steak is brown and crisp on the outside. Repeat with the second batch.
  • GARLIC SCENTED RICE: Rinse the rice in a fine mesh strainer under cold running water for 2 minutes, use your fingers to rub the rice to remove any excess starch, set aside. Add the oil and garlic to a skillet and heat the skillet over medium heat. This will infuse the oil with the garlic flavor. You can remove the garlic if you don't want it to be too garlicky at this point. Add the rice and allow to toast for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently so the rice doesn't stick or burn. Add the chicken broth and allow to come to a boil, stir just once to break up lumps. Cover, reduce heat to low and allow the rice to cook for 12-15 minutes or until the water dries up. Let stand for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
  • CUCUMBER + CARROT SALAD: In a bowl combine the sesame seeds, 1/2 teaspoon salt, red pepper flakes, rice vinegar, and honey until the honey dissolves. Add the cucumbers and carrots and stir to coat. Allow to marinate for atleast 5-10 minutes in the refrigerator.
  • ASSEMBLE: Place the rice in a bowl, topped with cooked steak, cucumber + carrot salad, half boiled egg and sprinkle with sliced scallions or toasted sesame seeds. Drizzle with sriracha mayo if desired.
