CONTEST-WINNING GRILLED ASIAN FLANK STEAK
This recipe is a tender, lighter variation of the marinated ginger-sake flank steak my mother used to make. It has a wonderful flavor and aroma. - Shawn Solley, Morgantown, West Virginia.

GRILLED OR BROILED ASIAN FLANK STEAK
This Asian inspired steak is delicious and a nice flavored steak that your whole family will enjoy. It takes literally 2 minutes to mix the marinade together. I love it on the grill, but you can use your broiler too, if the weather is cold and you don't want to stand outside to cook. Make sure you cut your meat on a slant, across the grain, so it will be nice and tender. I like my steak rare, so I cook it about 6 minutes on each side. Make sure you keep checking for doneness, so it doesn't overcook for you. Enjoy!

Steps:
- Brush the flank steak on both sides with the mustard. Put the steak in a sturdy resealable plastic bag and add the wine. Seal the bag, pressing out any air, and refrigerate overnight. Drain the steak, pat dry and bring to room temperature before grilling.
- Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine the olive oil and garlic and cook over low heat until the garlic is golden and soft, about 15 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the garlic to a small bowl; reserve the garlic oil. Add the thyme to the garlic and mash to a paste. Stir in the mayonnaise and lemon juice and season with salt and pepper.
- Light a charcoal grill or preheat a cast iron grill pan. Brush the steak with the reserved garlic oil, season liberally with salt and pepper and grill over moderate heat for about 15 minutes, turning once, for medium-rare meat. Transfer the steak to a cutting board to rest for 5 minutes. Thinly slice the meat across the grain on the diagonal.
- Spread the garlic mayonnaise on the rolls and top with the flank steak, cheese and lettuce. Cut the sandwiches in half and serve.

- Combine soy sauce, balsamic vinegar (this is what gives that tangy, savory flavor) honey, teriyaki sauce, ginger, lime, garlic, a few squirts of siracha, vegetable oil and scallions into a bowl and mix to combine all the flavors.
- Then throw all the ingredients in a zip lock bag along with the steak. Shake, shake, shake. Make sure it’s all covered.
- If you live in the not so warm parts…like me… you can cheat a bit. Take a large oven proof frying pan and place it into a 500-degree oven for about 10 minutes. Or you can place it in there as the oven preheats.
