Chaat is a popular Indian snack..which was traditionally taken in the evenings but now frequently used as a stomach filler when you are not hungry enough to go for a full meal or simply when you don't want to go for full scale cooking. Chaat is normally a veggie dish but this one is with Chicken and very tasty.

MURG MUMTAZ (INDIAN CHICKEN CURRY WITH MILD CASHEW NUT CURRY)

A rich and creamy gravy which can be served with pilaf or any Indian bread. Preparation time includes the time required for the chicken to marinate. NOTE: According to the original recipe, the cream is to be added to the gravy before pouring it onto the chicken. But since the chicken still needs to cook a bit more after adding the gravy, I add it at the end to prevent the cream from curdling.

Steps:

  • Stir the yogurt and tandoori masala powder together in a large bowl until thoroughly combined; add the chicken and toss to coat evenly. Marinate in refrigerator for 1 hour. Drain and discard any excess marinade.

Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons in the skillet. Fry the onion paste in the hot oil until the moisture is mostly evaporated, about 3 minutes. Sprinkle the garam masala and chili powder over the mixture; cook 1 minute more. Pour the tomato sauce into the mixture, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook another 5 minutes. Return the chicken to the pan along with the half and half; bring to a boil.
