Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven at 350 degrees. Pour boiling water over oatmeal and set aside for 20 minutes.
- 2. Cream butter and sugars. Add eggs. Beat well.
- 3. Add vanilla and oatmeal mixture.
- 4. Add flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well.
- 5. Pour into a greased 9x13 inch pan.
- 6. Bake for 30 minutes.
- 7. For Topping: Melt butter. Add coconut, nuts, brown sugar, and milk.
- 8. Mix well.
- 9. Frost cake when you take it out of the oven.
- 10. Broil until the top is brown. Watch it carefully so it doesn't burn.

- Place oats in a small bowl; add boiling water. Let stand for 20 minutes. , In a small bowl, cream shortening and sugars. Add oat mixture and egg; mix well. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; add to creamed mixture and beat until combined. , Pour into an 8-in. fluted tube pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350° for 22-27 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 15 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with confectioners' sugar if desired.

- FROSTING Combine all ingredients and spread on cake. Broil until golden brown.

- 1. Bring water to a boil add quick oats. Let stand 15 minutes.
- 2. Cream together 1/2 cup butter or margarine, brown sugar, white sugar, and 2 well beaten eggs. Mix with oatmeal.
- 3. Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt. Add to mix and beat well.
- 4. Pour into a 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Bake 350 for 30 to 35 minutes.
- 5. FOR FROSTING: Mix together melted butter or margarine, canned cream /milk, vanilla and brown sugar.
- 6. Spread on cake and brown in the oven for a few minutes. You can add coconut or raisins on top.
