Steps:
- Preheat the oven to 350. Don't grease the baking sheets.
- Put the shortening, sugars, coffee, and egg in a mixing bowl and beat until smooth and blended. Add the oats, flour, salt, and baking soda. Stir very well so the dough is well mixed.
- Spread the All Bran cereal out on a piece of waxed paper. This is a sticky dough, so wet your fingers with cold water before pinching off about 2 tablespoons of dough at a time and rolling it in the All Bran. Don't worry if you can't get a heavy coating of cereal on each piece of dough; if just a little of the All Bran sticks, it will give a nice texture to the cookies.
- Place the dough pieces about 1 1/2-inches apart on the baking sheets. Bake 12-15 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool on racks.

PEANUT BUTTER OAT BRAN COOKIES
This recipe was on a box of "Hodgson Mill Oat Bran Cereal". What wonderful cookies! Chewy, filling, high fiber...and oat to boot. Lower cholesterol here we come. I also used 1/4 cup applesauce for 1/4 cup margarine to lower fat. They were super easy to mix and are sturdy enough to travel well (I mailed some to an avid fan!). Hope you enjoy.

OAT-BRAN CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
While dabbing in the kitchen one day, my husband, Dale, came up with these hearty cookies. I begged him to make them again, but he hadn't written down the recipe. Ten batches later, he finally recaptured the wonderful flavor.

- Preheat oven to 450°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Assemble and measure out ingredients.
- In large bowl, sift or sieve together the flours, baking powder and salt. Stir in the dry oat bran cereal and brown sugar.
- Use a wire pastry cutter to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Quickly run fingers through the mixture several times, scooping up bits of the butter and rubbing them into long paper-thin slivers between the thumb and forefinger. It is not necessary to do this with every piece of butter – just quickly pick several at random. Make a well in the center of the ingredients.
- Pour milk all at once into well in center of dry ingredients. Using a fork, mix ingredients just enough that the liquid is absorbed into the dry ingredients and the dough can be roughly brought together. Dough will be soft and sticky and some floury spots may remain. Transfer dough onto lightly floured work surface, gently working it just until the dry ingredients are barely incorporated and a shaggy dough mass forms. Do not overmix.
