OLD-FASHIONED CABBAGE ROLLS
It was an abundance of dill in my garden that led me to try this. My family liked the taste so much that, from then on, I made my old-fashioned cabbage rolls recipe with dill. This is how to make easy cabbage rolls. - Florence Krantz, Bismarck, North Dakota

Steps:
- Cook cabbage in boiling water just until outer leaves pull away easily from head. Set aside 12 large leaves for rolls. In a small bowl, combine the beef, pork, 1/2 cup tomato sauce, onion, rice, parsley, salt, dill and cayenne; mix well., Cut out the thick vein from the bottom of each leaf, making a V-shaped cut. Place about 1/4 cup meat mixture on a cabbage leaf; overlap cut ends of leaf. Fold in sides. Beginning from the cut end, roll up. Repeat., Slice the remaining cabbage; place in a Dutch oven. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam side down over sliced cabbage. Combine the tomatoes, sugar and remaining tomato sauce; pour over the rolls. Cover and bake at 350° until cabbage rolls are tender, 1-1/2 hours.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) grease and flour a 9 inch Bundt pan. Pour boiling water over raisins and let stand 5 minutes. Drain well and dry raisins with a cloth towel.
- In large bowl, combine sausage, brown sugar and white sugar. Stir until mixture is well blended. Add eggs and beat well.
- In a separate bowl, sift together flour, ginger, baking powder and pumpkin pie spice.
- Stir baking soda into coffee.
- Add flour mixture and coffee alternately to sausage mixture, beating well after each addition. Fold raisins and walnuts into cake batter.
- Pour batter into greased and floured 9 inch Bundt pan. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 1 1/2 hours or until toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean. Cool in pan 15 minutes, then turn out onto wire rack.

No cake mix here,,, for Gram's, she starts from scratch.She always brought this cake to picnics and BBQ,s- This cake keeps well for weeks she says- but we have no way of telling for sure- it always disappears the same day! lol!

- 1. Grind salt pork(all fat) Pour boiling water over and let stand till lukewarm. Stir in sugar, molasses, egg, soda and spices. Add flour and raisins. Mix well. Pour in well greased tube or deep loaf pans. Bake in 300^ oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or till tested done. --- Easy Method: Reduce water to 1 cup For the salt pork -substitute 1 cup shortening 1 teas. salt 9 oz. condensed mincemeat and prepare with remaining ingredients above Follow according to directions above for baking.

This is a sweet meat cake from Gramma Stevens' ziplock recipe bag. It's so unique, it makes you wonder what people were thinking 150 years ago. And... could it possibly contain raisins? - 1. Put pork thru grinder, pour boiling water over it and let stand until lukewarm.
- 2. Stir in sugar, spices, soda, well beaten egg and molasses.
- 3. Sift flour and add to fruit and then to pork mix. Stir until well blended.
- 4. Pour into well greased baking pan and bake 2 hours in a 300 degree oven or until done.
- 5. Gramma Note: This cake can be eaten as soon as baked and cooled, or it will keep for weeks. Good for outdoors picnics.
