TANGY SLOPPY JOES
"I first tasted this recipe at a rehearsal dinner for a church Christmas program about 20 years ago," writes Sharon De Roos of Elgin, Illinois. "It's the best sloppy joe mix that I have ever had and I receive many compliments, and of course, requests for the recipe!"

SUPER SLOPPY JOES
This comes from my "Taste of Home" magazine (Apr/May 99). I had always just opened a can of Manwich for dinner, but one day I dared to make "real" sloppy joes, and well, there's no going back now. Trust me, they're fabulous!

NEAT SLOPPY JOES
No green pepper in this recipe, so it's a hit with kids. We added this to the menu at a children's camp, and it has been a favorite for several years. The mixture is thick, so they are 'neat' rather than sloppy. This freezes and reheats well.

Steps:
- Place ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until evenly browned, stirring to crumble. I like to use a potato masher to even out the lumps. Add onion and celery, cover the pan, and cook until tender and transparent, about 5 minutes. Drain off any grease.
- Stir the tomato soup (undiluted), ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce into the beef mixture. Season with salt and garlic powder. Heat to a simmer over low heat, and cook until thoroughly heated, stirring frequently to prevent it from burning on the bottom.
- Spoon the hot beef mixture onto buns, which may be toasted first, and serve.

MY FAMILY'S FAVORITE SLOPPY JOES (PIZZA JOES)
I've tried many recipes, this is the best. I once 'dec-tupled' (10x) this recipe to sell sandwiches at a craft fair at my church. People were waiting in line to buy leftovers. Freezes well, goes up to the lake or camping well and is a hit on Halloween...it's no-fail. Easy to double, triple, etc. I've been making Joes this way for over 20 years. ***03-08-09, I just reinvented this recipe tonight when I went to make it for dinner and found I didn't have an 8-oz. can of tomato sauce (shame on me). The family was upset with me when I subbed an 8-oz. can of pizza sauce and told them to suck it up and call them 'Pizza Joes' and then served them up with shredded mozzarella cheese on the toasted buns, top and bottom. They loved it. I left out the BBQ sauce in this preparation and just used a 1/2 cup ketchup. Pizza Joes are good to go!

SLOPPY JOES
My sister-in-law Marsha has been making these for years. She calls them bar-b-que, but I'm from the south, so I call them Sloppy Joes. Whatever you call them, the whole family will just yum them right up!

REAL SLOPPY JOES
I know I personally, can't stand canned sloppy joes or mixes like Manwich. Most of the things I know how to make are from zaar, watching my mother and going from memory, or like this one from my cooking teacher in high school. Definitely not a "sweet" sloppy joe. I never liked sloppy joes until I tried this recipe Sometimes I substitute celery seed and onion flakes for the real deal, depends what you have on hand and if you like chunks of veggies in your sloppy joes. Feel free to add some extra chili powder, this is the basic recipe as I was taught, depending on mood I'll keep it the same or add more

JOE'S MARKET SLOPPY JOE
Steps:
- Lay out 3 slices rye bread. Spread each with a generous spread of Russian Dressing, making sure to cover the bread in its entirety. Place 3 slices corned beef, 3 slices roast beef, 1 slice Swiss cheese and 2 tablespoons Coleslaw on one of the dressed slices. Place one of the dressed slices of rye bread on top of the first layer. Place 3 slices turkey, 2 slices Swiss and 2 tablespoons Coleslaw on top, each, creating a second layer. Take the remaining dressed slice of rye bread and flip it over so that the Russian Dressing side is face down, and top off the sandwich. Place a toothpick in each corner of the sandwich and slice the sandwich horizontally and vertically, making 4 pieces. Repeat the process 3 more times with the remaining ingredients.
- Mix together the ketchup, mayonnaise, relish and smoked paprika in a bowl, then chill for 30 minutes.
- Mix together the mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, celery seed, carrots, cabbage and salt and pepper in a bowl. Chill for 30 minutes.
