Slow-Cooker Sloppy Joe Sliders image

Steps:

  • In a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker, combine the ground beef, garlic, celery, peppers, onions, tomato sauce, ketchup, chili powder, dry mustard, onion powder, sugar, Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Mix together with a wooden spoon, making sure to break up the ground beef. Set the machine to high and cook for 4 hours.
  • Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the buns to make sliders.

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80 percent lean)
2 cloves garlic, grated
1 inner stalk celery (with leaves), finely chopped
1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
1/2 onion, finely chopped
One 14.5-ounce can tomato sauce, such as Pomi
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
16 slider buns or mini potato rolls, split

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, add the ground beef and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Using a spoon, break up the meat and stir until browned.
  • Add the onion and garlic and continue to cook until the onions are translucent.
  • Add the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire, and brown sugar.
  • Stir until the meat is fully cooked and sauce is evenly combined. Set aside.
  • Cut the dinner rolls in half and place the bottom half in a baking pan.
  • Top with meat and sprinkle with cheese. Place the top of the rolls back on top.
  • Brush the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, or until rolls are toasted and cheese is melted.
  • Cut into individual sliders.
  • Enjoy!

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Without separating rolls, cut rolls in half horizontally; arrange bottom halves in a greased 13x9-in. baking pan. Top with half of cheese slices; set aside., In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until beef is no longer pink and onion is tender, 6-8 minutes, break up beef into crumbles; drain. Stir in sloppy joe sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce and pepper. Cook and stir until combined, 1-2 minutes. Spoon beef mixture evenly over rolls; top with remaining cheese. Replace top halves of rolls. , For glaze, stir together butter, brown sugar, mustard, soy sauce and garlic powder. Brush over rolls; sprinkle with sesame seeds and minced onion. Bake, uncovered, until tops are golden and cheese is melted, 15-20 minutes. If desired, top with pickle slices., Freeze option: Cover and freeze unbaked sandwiches; prepare and freeze glaze. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Remove from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Preheat oven to 350°. Pour glaze over buns and sprinkle with sesame seeds and minced onion.
