Steps:

  • For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Mix together the granulated sugar, oil and eggs in a large bowl. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture and combine. Then add the carrots and mix well. Pour the batter into a greased and floured Bundt pan and bake until done, about 50 minutes. Leave to cool completely.
  • Meanwhile, for the icing: In a larger bowl, cream the butter and cream cheese together. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla and blend. Then mix in the pecans. Spread the icing on the cooled carrot cake.
  • Eat. Faint. Repeat as needed.

Steps:

  • Sift together flour, cocoa, soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs. Blend in sourdough starter. Add sifted ingredients slowly to creamed mixture, beating until smooth. Stir in water and vanilla, and mix well. Pour batter into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 35 minutes, or until done.

Sourdough is believed to have originated in Ancient Egyptian times around 1500 BC, and was likely the first form of leavening available to bakers. Comes from a November 1978 Better Homes and Garden magazine. I haven't made this in years but it is delicious!

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degree f.
  • In mixing bowl stir together four, sugar, salt, baking powder, soda and cinnamon.
  • Add carrots, oil, sourdough starter and eggs.
  • Mix until moistened.
  • Beat at medium speed of electric mixer for two minutes.
  • Pour into a greased and floured (I use PAM).
  • 13x9 baking pan.
  • Bake in 325 degree oven for 55 minutes.
  • Cool thoroughly.
  • Spread with Cream Cheese Frosting and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.

  • In small bowl beat together cream cheese and butter.
  • Slowly beat in powdered sugar.
  • Beat until smooth.
  • Add 1 teaspoon vanilla.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine sourdough starter, flour, sugar, oil, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl; beat with an electric mixer until smooth and thick. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  • Mix brown sugar, softened butter, and cinnamon in a bowl until evenly moistened. Sprinkle topping over the cake batter.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 30 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, mix melted butter, milk, and vanilla in a bowl with a fork until smooth. Drizzle glaze over the coffee cake while the cake is still hot.

  • First grease 2-3; 9 inch round cake pans with softened butter using a pastry brush. Lightly dusk with flour. Set your pan aside. In a mixing bowl; mix flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and sugar. Next, add eggs one at a time; do not add eggs to quick because if will cause your cake not to have volume. After you add your eggs add olive oil, sourdough, milk and vanilla. Fold in the carrots, raisins and pecans. Pour cake batter into pans and fill about seventy five percent.
  • Cool cakes in their pans for ten minutes and than transfer to cool on a wire racks. Take a butter knife to remove cake from side and tip upside down to remove.
  • Once cake is completely cooled frost the top cake and add next layer and repeat if necessary. Frost entire cake with cream cheese frosting top, sides to bottom.
