STUPID SIMPLE SUGAR COOKIES
This is a slight variation on another sugar cookie recipe I got out of a magazine. The original recipe called for more flour than I used because that recipe was for roll out cookies, this recipe makes drop cookies. If you want to make roll out cookies, use 2 cups flour instead of 1 1/4 cup. For a different flavor (besides vanilla), try using almond or butter extract (same amount).

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Cream butter and sugar in bowl until fluffy.
- Add egg and mix until well blended.
- Mix in baking powder and extract.
- Add flour by 1/4 cup at a time. This makes mixing a lot easier, and is better if working with children. If batter is slightly too thin, add flour by teaspoonfuls until desired texture is attained.
- Drop cookies onto baking sheet by tablespoonfuls. These tend to spread out a lot, so it may be best to only put 6-8 on each baking sheet.
- Bake for 14-17 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges.
EASY SUGAR COOKIES
Quick and easy sugar cookies! They are really good, plain or with candies in them. My friend uses chocolate mints on top, and they're great!

SUGAR COOKIES
This sugar cookie dates back to a Swedish woman born in 1877! Her daughter, Esther Davis, shared the recipe with me and she came up with all the exact measurements, since the original cookies were mixed by feel and taste. These are my favorite cookies and I hope they'll become yours as well. -Helen Wallis, Vancouver, Washington

Steps:
- In a large bowl sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. Place butter and sugar in bowl of electric stand mixer and beat until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg and milk and beat to combine. Put mixer on low speed, gradually add flour, and beat until mixture pulls away from the side of the bowl. Divide the dough in half, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Remove 1 wrapped pack of dough from refrigerator at a time, un-wrap the dough and roll it by hand into a log about 1 1/2-inches in diameter. Repeat with the second pack of dough. If dough has warmed during rolling, return it to the refrigerator for about 10 minutes. The dough may even be frozen at this point and thawed when ready to bake.
- Sprinkle a work surface with half of the turbinado sugar. Roll one of the logs through the pile coating the entire log with as much of the sugar as will adhere. Repeat with the remaining sugar and the second log. Slice each log crosswise into 1/3-inch thick rounds. Place them at least 1-inch apart on greased baking sheet, parchment, or silicone baking mat, and bake for 8 to 9 minutes or until cookies are just beginning to turn brown around the edges, rotating cookie sheet halfway through baking time. Let sit on baking sheet for 2 minutes after removal from oven and then move to complete cooling on wire rack. Store in airtight container for up to 1 week.

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST SUGAR COOKIES RECIPE BY TASTY
Here's what you need: unsalted butter, granulated sugar, cream cheese, large egg, large egg yolks, McCormick® vanilla extract, McCormick® almond extract, kosher salt, all purpose flour, baking powder, cream of tartar, powdered sugar, kosher salt, vanilla extract, gel food coloring, water, pasteurized egg white

Steps:
- Make the cookie dough: In a large bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, and cream cheese with an electric hand mixer on high speed for about 5 minutes, until fluffy and the sugar is mostly dissolved. Scrape down the bowl as needed to evenly beat the mixture.
- Add the egg, egg yolks, vanilla, and almond extract and mix well, scraping down the sides of the bowl.
- Add the salt, then sift the flour, baking powder, and cream of tartar into the bowl and fold to incorporate some of the flour. Then beat on low speed, just until incorporated and the dough comes together.
- Shape the dough into a flat disc and wrap tightly in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or up to 3-4 days.
- When ready to bake the cookies, preheat the oven to 350˚F (180˚C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove the dough from the fridge and let sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the cookie dough with a rolling pin to ¼-inch (6mm) thick.
- Dip cookie cutters of your choice in some extra flour and cut out shapes from the dough. Gather any excess dough into a ball and chill in the fridge to firm, then re-roll and cut out more cookies. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and chill for at least 20 minutes to ensure they hold their shapes.
- Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges just barely start to turn golden brown. Cool completely on a wire rack before decorating with royal icing or frosting.
- To make the royal icing, sift the powdered sugar into a large bowl and add the salt. On one side of the bowl, add the vanilla and egg whites.
- Where you added the liquids, begin whisking the powdered sugar into the liquids, gathering a bit more as you whisk to prevent lumps from forming, until all of the powdered sugar is incorporated. Add food coloring, if desired, and whisk to incorporate. You can divide the icing into smaller bowls to make more than one color. At this point, the icing should be a good consistency for piping borders. If you'd like the frosting to be looser to flood or dip your cookies, add a few tablespoons of water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired consistency.
- Decorate the cookies as desired.
- Enjoy!

CHEWY SUGAR COOKIES
I love sugar cookies that are crisp on the outside and very chewy on the inside. Do not try to roll these cookies out, they are meant to be shaped or dropped. This recipe can easily be made into snickerdoodle cookies by rolling the dough in cinnamon-sugar before baking.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 400*F''
- Prepare 2 baking sheets and set aside. This can be done by greasing them with butter or Crisco, non-stick spray, parchment paper, non-stick foil or a baking mat. Whatever your preferred method is.
- Cream together sugar and butter for 3 minutes or until fluffy.
- Add eggs and mix again.
- Add salt, and baking powder. Blend.
- Add 1/4 cup buttermilk, vanilla and almond extract. Blend.
- Add 2 1/2 cups flour (1/2 cup at a time).
- Add remaining 1/4 cup buttermilk.
- Then remaining flour (for a total of 4 1/2 cups). Batter should be smooth, elastic like and slightly sticky. If too sticky, add more flour a little at a time (up to 1 cup - be careful to not put TOO much flour in the dough).
- When ready to roll out, sprinkle surface with powdered sugar, not flour. These are SUGAR cookies. Roll them out in sugar! Roll to 1/4 in thickness.
- Cut out with favorite shape and transfer to prepared pan.
- Bake 10 minutes. Watch carefully as every oven bakes differently. You want the cookies to be a hint of golden under them, not dark golden. Edges should not start to show golden, you'll have to gently flip a cookie to see for sure.
- Allow cookies to cool completely then frost.

MUZ'S DROP SUGAR COOKIES
This is my first creation on this site and I couldn't think of a better recipe to share with everyone. First off, I'm a 22-year-old man and when I was in my teens, my great-grandmother, who I called Muz, would make sugar cookies all the time for me and my grandparents. They were phenomenal, as she had perfected it over the years. She passed at the young age of 95 in 2006 and left the recipe in one of her boxes. Now that I've been cooking, I found her recipe for her Drop Sugar Cookies last week and made them last night. They are awesome, but you'll learn that when you make them. Enjoy!

BASIC SUGAR COOKIES - TRIED AND TRUE SINCE 1960
This is my backwoods Mississippi grandmother's own customized sugar cookie dough recipe. Royal icing is recommended, but these are also wonderful without icing. Very light and buttery. My mom stuck with it, and we grew up eating the raw cookie dough before snacking on the cookies at holidays. This will always be my basic cookie dough recipe. It's very quick and easy to make a batch of this dough and to customize. These are common ingredients easily found in most sparsely-stocked kitchens. You don't have to be a master chef to get a batch of these cookies to turn out well.
