Asian Sweet Chili Sesame Chicken Recipe - (4.4/5) image

Steps:

  • Add chicken to the bottom of your crockpot. Whisk the Sweet Chili Sesame Sauce ingredients together in a medium bowl. Pour over chicken. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. Shred chicken and add 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 1/4 cup water to the crockpot. Stir contents around. Cook on high for 20-30 minutes until sauce thickens. Taste and add Sriracha for spicier, brown sugar for sweeter if desired. Serve with rice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Notes *You can use frozen chicken breasts but just be aware that they will release more water so you will need to increase the cornstarch in order to thicken the liquid at the end. **Hoisin sauce can be found in the Asian section of your grocery store.

Sweet Chili Sesame Sauce
1/4 -1/3 cup Asian sweet chili sauce (1/3 for more heat)
1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/3 cup ketchup
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons quality hoisin sauce like Lee Kum Kee or Kikkkoman**
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 teaspoons garlic powder (or 3-4 garlic cloves, minced)
1 teaspoon ginger powder (or 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Garnishes
toasted sesame seeds
chopped green onions

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a wok or large saucepan. Add the onion and stir-fry for 5 mins until turning golden. Add the garlic, ginger, chicken, pak choi and sesame seeds, and stir-fry for 5 mins or until the chicken is cooked.
  • Mix the cornflour with the soy sauce, chilli sauce and lemon juice. Add to the pan and stir-fry for 1 min. Serve straight away with extra soy sauce and egg noodles or rice, if you like.

Steps:

  • Combine the 2 tablespoons soy sauce, the dry sherry, dash of sesame oil, flour, 2 tablespoons cornstarch, 2 tablespoons water, baking powder, baking soda, and canola oil in a large bowl. Mix well; stir in the chicken. Cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Combine the 1/2 cup water, chicken broth, vinegar, 1/4 cup cornstarch, sugar, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons sesame oil, red chili paste, and garlic in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Turn heat to low and keep warm, stirring occasionally.
  • Fry the marinated chicken in batches until cooked through and golden brown, 3 to 5 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  • Transfer the chicken to a large platter, top with sauce, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Korean chilli, sesame & honey chicken image

Steps:

  • Toss the chicken in the soy sauce, sesame oil and ginger. Thread each thigh on two long metal skewers, so that each skewer pierces one side of the thigh. Keep threading the chicken, making sure it's packed onto the skewers tightly. Chill until you're ready to cook. Mix the ingredients for the glaze.
  • Heat the BBQ. If using a coal BBQ, wait for the coals to turn ashen before you start cooking. Cook the kebab for 5-8 mins on each side (depending on the heat). Once nicely charred but not fully cooked through, start painting on the glaze. The honey will catch if cooked for too long - the key to nice sticky chicken is applying the glaze in layers, turning the kebab often.
  • Once the glaze has been used up and the chicken is cooked through (it'll take about 20 mins in total), transfer to a plate and leave to cool for 5 mins before serving scattered with spring onions.
