Steps:
- Preheat oven to 450. Measure flour into a medium bowl. Using a pastry blender, cut butter into flour thoroughly. Add milk and mix just until all flour is moistened.
- Place dough onto a floured countertop or other flat surface. Pat to 2" thick with hands, but do not overhandle. Using a floured biscuit cutter, cut into rounds and place on a greased cookie sheet or seasoned baking stone with biscuit edges just touching. Gather up leftover dough and reshape to cut more biscits.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes or until light golden on top. Serve warm with butter, cream gravy or have a dessert biscuit--butter with a little sugar sprinkled on top!

Steps:
- Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6 and line a baking sheet with baking parchment. Put the butter in a bowl and beat it with electric beaters until soft and creamy. Beat in the sugar, then the egg and vanilla, and finally the flour to make a dough. If the dough feels a bit sticky, add a little bit more flour and knead it in.
- Pull pieces off the dough and roll them out to about the thickness of two £1 coins on a floured surface. The easiest way to do this with small children is to roll the mixture out on a baking mat. Cut out shapes using a 9cm biscuit cutter, or a use the rim of a small glass and peel away the leftover dough around the edges. Press some clean toys gently into the biscuits, making sure you make enough of a mark without going all the way through. Re-roll off-cuts and repeat.
- Transfer the whole mat or the individual biscuits to the baking sheet and bake for 8-10 mins or until the edges are just brown. Leave to cool for 5 mins, then serve. Will keep for three days in a biscuit tin.

CRUSTY YUMMY BISCUITS
I got this recipe from a Taste of Home Cookbook. It was originally intended for serving one or two people, but I just doubled the recipe for more. Very good biscuits, tasty and they're quick and easy to make. *This is the version already doubled, divide measurments in half to fix the original version.

If you're looking for a flaky basic biscuit, this recipe is the best. These golden brown rolls bake up tall, light and tender. They're good on their own, but taste even better served warm and spread with butter or jam. -Nancy Horsburgh, Everett, Ontario

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Slice the butter into a couple of thin slices and spread in the bottom of an 8x8" baking dish.
- Place the butter in the baking dish into the oven while it preheats to allow the butter to melt.
- In a mixing bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Carefully pour in the buttermilk, mixing until the flour mixture is just moistened (be careful not to overmix!).
- Remove melted butter pan from the oven.
- Place the dough in the melted butter pan and spread it evenly in the pan with your fingers. As you spread the dough out to the corners, the butter will start to surround the dough and flow on top of the dough (which is what you want!).
- Cut the dough into 9 equal squares (you don't have to do this step, but it makes it easier to pull apart later and allows the butter to soak into all the edges of each piece).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes (start checking at 20 minutes) or until the biscuits are golden brown.
- Serve hot with honey butter or your favorite toppings.

- The secret to excellent biscuits is COLD BUTTER. Really cold. Many times the biscuit dough gets worked so much that the butter softens before the biscuits even go in the oven. Try cutting the butter into small pieces and stick back in the fridge pulling out only when ready to incorporate into the dough.
- Use a pastry cutter to cut cold butter into flour mixture. Don't go too crazy here - you want to see small, pea-sized pieces of butter throughout the dough.
