Steps:

  • Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan with butter; dust with flour and tap out the excess; preheat oven to 350°.
  • Melt butter and chocolate in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring often; set aside to cool.
  • Cream the sugar, eggs, and vanilla together; add in the cooled chocolate mixture; mix until well blended.
  • Measure the flour and salt; then sift together directly into the chocolate mixture.
  • Mix batter gently until well combined and no trace of dry ingredients remains.
  • *At this point, stir in any extras like walnuts.
  • Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan; bake 33 minutes or until toothpick tests done (clean or with only crumbs, no batter).
  • Remove from oven and cool on a rack for 1 hour; cut just before serving.

Steps:

  • Heat over to 350º.
  • Grease 9" square pan.
  • Stir butter, sugar and vanilla in large bowl.
  • Add eggs; beat well with spoon.
  • Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt.
  • Add gradually to butter mixture, beating until well blended.
  • Stir in nuts if desired.
  • Spread into pan.
  • Bake 20-25 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan.
  • Cool.
  • Frost if desired.

Old-Fashioned Cocoa Brownies image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Sift the cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt together into a large bowl. Add the coffee and corn syrup. Blend with a wire whisk until the mixture is smooth and glossy. Add the applesauce, sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk until completely blended. Add the flour. Fold in the yogurt with a wooden spoon just until it is incorporated.
  • Fold the batter into an 8-by-8 inch nonstick baking pan. Bake for about 30 minutes, until the mixture is just beginning to separate from the edges of the pan and is firm to the touch in the centre.
  • Remove from the oven, place on a rack, and cool completely in the pan, about 2 hours.

Fat Free Dark Chocolate Brownies image

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray a 13" X 9" baking pan with no-stick spray. Set the pan aside.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the sugar, cocoa, all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour and baking powder. Set the flour mixture aside.
  • In another large bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. Slowly stir in the prunes or applesauce, buttermilk and vanilla. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and beat with an electric mixer until thoroughly combined. Fold in the walnuts.
  • Transfer the batter to the prepared pan. Bake 30 minutes or until the brownies just begin to pull away from the sides of the pan (do not overbake). Cool completely on a wire rack. Lightly sprinkle with the powdered sugar, then cut into bars.
