HOLIDAY COFFEE LIQUOR

One of our town's ancient citizens, Mabel Hill, passed away recently, but thanks to her grandniece, I was able to obtain her famous 'Kahlua®' recipe. For over 70 years, Hollis, New Hampshire people have been enjoying this holiday beverage! There is a scant amount more than the 5 pints, which I save for baking or to throw in my cocktail while making it.

Holiday Coffee Liquor image

Steps:

Stir water, sugar, vodka, coffee, and vanilla extract together in a large bowl or pitcher until sugar is completely dissolved. Cool.

4 cups white sugar
2 cups vodka
⅔ cup instant coffee powder

HOLIDAY COFFEE

A simple but rich coffee that is ideal for the Holiday Season or anytime that you're in the mood for something a bit special. The recipe says that it will make 4 servings but that is for huge mugs 16 oz mugs. Smaller mugs or cups will give you more servings. Cook time is however long your coffee pot takes.

Steps:

Prepare coffee according to manufacturer's directions.
Stir sweetened condensed milk into coffee, and serve immediately with a dollop of whipped cream, a stick of cinnamon and a maraschino cherry.

1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
whipped cream
cinnamon
4 maraschino cherries, with stems

HOLIDAY COFFEE

This is delicious! I use a tablespoon of ground coffee for each cup of coffee. You could always change the amounts to suit your tastes. It would be nice to serve this with chocolate spoons. To make chocolate spoons melt chocolate chips in a double boiler. Coat a teaspoon with the chocolate. Place on parchment paper and freeze. Happy Holidays!

Add the ground coffee and pumpkin pie spice to the coffee filter of a drip coffee maker. Add 6 cups of water to the machine. Add the strips of orange zest to the empty carafe.
Brew according to the manufacturer's instructions. The orange zest should stay in the carafe as the cups are filled.
