A VERY POPULAR BBQ SAUCE

This recipe has a lot of sweetness and spice, so if you're looking for a classic BBQ sauce that's easy to make, look no further. It is very popular with users of 'ceramic' type smokers and grills, (i.e. Primo, Kamado, Big Green Egg, etc.)

Steps:

  • In a blender, combine brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, water and Worcestershire sauce. Season with mustard, paprika, salt, pepper, and hot pepper sauce. Blend until smooth.

1 ½ cups brown sugar
1 ½ cups ketchup
½ cup red wine vinegar
½ cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 ½ tablespoons dry mustard
2 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons salt
1 ½ teaspoons black pepper
2 dashes hot pepper sauce

KATE'S HOME-MADE BBQ SAUCE

I started off with some ripe tomatoes from my garden, expecting to make Stewed Tomatoes...instead, they wanted to be Barbecue Sauce. This recipe packs some heat, but it's still sweet.

Kate's Home-Made BBQ sauce image

Steps:

  • Take the stewed tomatoes, and cook them down (over medium heat) until they release most of their liquid in a large sauce pan (or dutch oven), remove solids and return liquids to pan.
  • Add chipotle peppers in adobo sauce (if you prefer less heat in your sauce, use 1/4-1/2 can). Continue to simmer, adding spices.
  • Slowly add sugar and honey/molasses stirring occasionally.
  • Simmer sauce over low to medium heat for as long as necessary to thicken to a sauce, allowing extra liquids to cook off.
  • Store refrigerated until use.

3-4 teaspoon(s) cinnamon

  • Cover with a lid slightly ajar so that the pot is mostly covered to deter splattering, but steam can still escape and the sauce can reduce. Let cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens, about 10 to 15 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings as desired. Enjoy immediately or let cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
