BREAD PUDDING WITH NUTMEG

I always make this bread pudding recipe for my dad on his birthday and on holidays. He says it tastes exactly like the bread pudding with nutmeg he enjoyed as a child. -Donna Powell, Montgomery City, Missouri

Bread Pudding with Nutmeg image

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, lightly beat eggs. Combine milk and butter; add to eggs along with sugar, salt, spices and vanilla. Add bread cubes and, if desired, raisins; stir gently. , Pour into a well-greased 11x7-in. baking dish. Bake at 350° until a knife inserted 1 in. from edge comes out clean, 40-45 minutes. , Meanwhile, for sauce, combine the sugar, cornstarch and salt in a saucepan. Stir in water until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir until thickened, about 2 minutes. Remove from the heat. Stir in the butter, vanilla and nutmeg. Serve with warm pudding.

GRANDMAS OLD FASHIONED BREAD PUDDING image

Steps:

  • 1. Spray a 9 x 9 inch pan with Pam.
  • 2. Place soft bread cubes in pan. Sprinkle with raisins.
  • 3. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg over bread and raisins in pan.
  • 4. Meanwhile, scald milk and butter.
  • 5. Blend sugar and eggs with whisk. Pour over bread.
  • 6. When milk mixture is done, carefully pour over bread. Gently mix.
  • 7. Bake in 350° oven for 35 - 45 minutes.
  • 8. This is for the Delicious sauce. - Put all the following ingredients in small saucepan on low heat. Blend until smooth. 3/4 cup sugar 1 Tablespoon flour 3/4 cup water 1Tablespoon butter 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • In a bowl, break bread and moisten with evaporated milk and water. Pour eggs over mixture and mix well. Add pineapple, apple, raisins, sugar, and vanilla and mix well.   • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a 10x12-inch baking pan.
  • Combine half-and-half, eggs, sugar, heavy cream, raisins, cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a bowl; mix well.
  • Arrange bread pieces on the bottom of the prepared pan. Pour cream mixture over bread. Allow to soak 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Place the baking pan into a larger pan; fill the larger pan with water halfway up the sides of the smaller pan.

  • Soak the bread well in the water. When well soaked mash bread and drain off excess water add the remaining ingredients to the bread stirring well, transfer to the slow cooker. Place the lid in position. Cook on the low settling for 8 - 10 hours. 30 minutes before serving switch to high setting to allow the edges of the bread to become crisp.
