OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE VANILLA BEAN SWEET MASHED POTATOES

I saw that someone posted a recipe for this on the Zaar site but it did not have directions so I went on an internet search to find this. I hope this recipe does the restaurant recipe justice! Let me know what you think or if you perhaps have a better recipe.

Outback Steakhouse Vanilla Bean Sweet Mashed Potatoes image

Steps:

  • Cook sweet potatoes on a cookie sheet in 350-degree oven for 1 hour.
  • Remove skin from sweet potatoes; set aside.
  • Place butter, sugar, Karo, cinnamon and vanilla into mixing bowl; blend with an electric mixer for approximately 2 minutes.
  • Add sweet potatoes; blend an additional 1 minute. Serve immediately.

1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup Karo syrup
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract

My family and I were traveling through Southern California and we stopped at a random steakhouse and had mashed sweet potatoes JUST LIKE THESE. I guessed on the ingredients and they turned out fabulous.

Steakhouse Mashed Sweet Potatoes image

Steps:

  • Combine sweet potatoes, milk, brown sugar, vanilla and nutmeg in a large saucepan.
  • Bring to a slow boil, reduce, cover and cook over low heat stirring the sugar & milk mixture onto the potatoes.
  • Cook for approximately 30-45 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, mash in a large bowl combining the sugar, milk vanilla mixture into the potatoes.
  • For more buttery potatoes, add ½ teaspoon of butter while mashing.
  • Shake ground nutmeg over potatoes to taste.
  • If you want a slightly browned version, place potatoes in Pyrex pan and bake for 10 minutes at 350°F for a crispy outer layer.

Steps:

  • Pierce potatoes with a fork, and arrange in a circle on paper towels in microwave oven.
  • Microwave at high 10 minutes or until tender, rearranging potatoes after 5 minutes.
  • Wrap in a towel; let stand 5 minutes.
  • Peel and mash potatoes.
  • Combine with milk and remaining ingredients.
  • Place in a 1-quart casserole; cover and microwave on medium for 7 minutes, or until thoroughly heated.

3/4 cup 1% low-fat milk
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
