Steps:

  • Add oatmeal and cornmeal to heat-proof bowl.
  • Pour in boiling water, stirring to prevent lumps.
  • Let mixture cool for 10 minutes.
  • Stir, pour it into the breadpan, and add the rest of the ingredients in the order given.
  • Makes 1 1/2 pound loaf, using the basic setting.

Steps:

  • Combine ingredients in breadmaker per your manufacturer's instructions.
  • You can replace 2 cups white bread flour with 2 cups whole wheat flour but include 1 tbsp vital wheat gluten (the original recipe suggested this).
  • Makes a moist, sweet loaf.
  • NOTE: cook time is for the basic/white cycle (medium crust; 1½ lb loaf) using a BreadmanPlus bread machine; your machine may differ.

BREAD MACHINE OATMEAL BREAD

This is a very nice, basic oatmeal bread for your bread machine that I do make fairly often. The ingredients are simple, and great for those avoiding dairy products, since it's made with water. I think you'll like it. NOTE: I never tried it with wheat germ, but I'd bet it would be great! Baking time will vary based on your machine.

My Favorite Molasses Oatmeal Bread Machine Bread image

Steps:

  • Add 1 cup water to measuring cup.
  • Crack egg into water.
  • Add additional lukewarm water to make 1 1/4 cup.
  • Mix egg and water with fork and pour into bread machine pan.
  • Add additional ingredients in order in recipe.
  • Set bread machine settings to basic white setting with light crust.
  • If dough appears too sticky, add a small amount of bread flour to pan. Keep adding until dough leaves side of pan.

  • Add all ingredients starting with the milk into the bread machine “bucket” (loaf pan). Make sure the yeast is last and does not touch the milk or salt. Some people like to make a small "divot" on top of the flour in order to hold the yeast in one spot before the machine starts.
