PEACH WHIRLIGIGS

Peach Whirligigs are basically homemade cinnamon rolls baked with a delicious peach sauce. They are easy to put together and will impress your company for sure. If fresh peaches aren't available, substitute apples...they're just as delicious as the peaches!

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • In large saucepan over medium heat, combine peaches, water, 1 ½ cups sugar and cornstarch.
  • Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture boils.
  • Boil for one minute, then reduce heat to low to keep warm.
  • In a large bowl, stir together baking mix, 2 tablespoons sugar, melted margarine and milk to form a soft dough.
  • Remove to floured surface and knead 8 to 10 times.
  • Roll out into a 9 inch square.
  • Spread softened margarine over dough.
  • Combine ¼ cup sugar with cinnamon, and sprinkle mixture over dough.
  • Roll dough into a log shape and cut into 6-1 ½ inch slices.
  • Pour hot peach mixture into an 8x8 inch baking dish.
  • Place roll slices, cut side up, on top of peach mixture.
  • Bake in preheated oven 20 to 25 minutes, until puffed and golden.
  • Serve warm and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  • In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, salt and cinnamon. Stir in water until smooth. Cook until mixture boils and thickens. Stir in berries; cook over low heat for 5 minutes. , Pour into a greased 9- or 10-in. cast-iron skillet or 8-in. square baking pan; set aside. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form. , In a small bowl, mix egg and milk. Add to flour mixture; stir until mixture forms a soft ball. Knead several minutes. Roll into a 12x8-in. rectangle. Spread with butter. Combine sugar, zest and cinnamon; sprinkle over dough. , Starting at a long end, roll up; seal edges. Cut into 9 slices. Place slices over berry mixture. Bake at 400° until golden brown, 22-25 minutes.

  • In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Stir in water until smooth. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. , Place raspberries in an ungreased 1-1/2-qt. shallow baking dish; pour hot sauce over top. Bake, uncovered, at 400° for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven; set aside. , For whirligigs, combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Cut in shortening until crumbly. Combine egg and half-and-half; stir into crumb mixture to form a stiff dough. , Shape into a ball. On a lightly floured surface. roll out into a 12x6-in. rectangle.
