Polka-Dot Cherry Cookies in a Jar image

Steps:

  • Layer sugar in a one-quart, wide-mouth jar; set aside.
  • Mix together the next 4 ingredients; add to the jar, packing down gently.
  • Layer the remaining ingredients in the order given.
  • Secure lid and attach instructions.
  • Instructions: In a large mixing bowl, cream 1/2 cup butter; add in 1 egg.
  • Blend in cookie mix; mix well.
  • Drop dough by teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet.
  • Bake in a 375° oven for 10-12 minutes.
  • Cool cookies on a wire rack.

MORGAN'S BREAKFAST POLENTA

This was my first attempt at polenta. I like it, but it is my mother Sandie who truly loves it. We always eat it with homemade blackberry jam on the weekends. You can substitute your favorite jam. Top with sweetened sour cream or creme fraiche.

Steps:

  • In a medium pan over high heat, bring to boil milk and water. Reduce heat to simmer liquid. Stirring constantly, pour in polenta in a thin, steady stream, breaking up any lumps that form. Stir in 2 tablespoons sugar and salt. Simmer, stirring often, until polenta is soft and creamy, about 30 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, mix sour cream and 1 tablespoon sugar.
  • Ladle polenta into bowls, and top with about 1 tablespoon of jam and a dollop of sweetened sour cream.

Steps:

  • In a large pot over medium-high heat, bring milk, water, and salt to a boil. Gradually whisk in polenta. Reduce heat to low, and cover. Cook 20 minutes, until creamy, lifting the lid and stirring every 3 or 4 minutes to prevent sticking. Remove pot from stove, stir in pepper and butter. Gradually stir in cheese. Serve.

  • Grease the bottom and sides of a loaf pan with butter or cooking spray. Sprinkle with a sugar and cinnamon mix if you'd like. (This really adds a nice sweet crunch to the outside of the bread!)

  • Pour the batter into the loaf pan and bake at 350° for 50-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Your nose will tell you when it's done. :)
