FRESH BASIL SALAD DRESSING

My sour cream and basil dressing has fancy bistro flavor. We serve it with salad; it's also a tasty addition to baked potatoes, bread salads and veggies. -Deborah Comeaux, Pocomoke City, Maryland

Fresh Basil Salad Dressing image

Steps:

  • Place the basil, onion and garlic in a food processor. Cover and process until finely chopped. Add the remaining ingredients; cover and process until blended. Cover and refrigerate until serving.

1 cup packed fresh basil leaves
1 green onion, cut into large pieces
1 garlic clove, peeled and halved
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper

CITRUS-BASIL VINAIGRETTE

This dressing is lovely yellow color, and we use it on a mixed green salad (mixed Romaine and European greens), tossed with small broccoli and cauliflower florets, raisins or sweetened dried cranberries, and shredded Cheddar or crumbled Gorgonzola cheese. The sweet-tart zestiness of the dressing perks up the salad! The yield depends on how much salad dressing you prefer. For us, this recipe makes enough dressing for about 4 large salads.

Citrus-Basil Vinaigrette image

Steps:

  • In a jar with a lid, mix the olive oil, orange juice, lemon juice, lemon zest, salt, honey, basil, and vinegar. Seal and shake well. Chill 2 hours in the refrigerator. Strain basil before serving.
