Steps:

  • Mix Potatoes, Sauce mix from potatoes, ham, broth, celery, onion and pepper in 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat setting 7 hours.
  • Mix half-and-half and flour. Gradually stir half-and-half mixture into chowder until blended.
  • Cover and cook on low heat setting 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until thickened and vegetables are tender.

HAM BONE CHOWDER

Couldn't find an after Christmas ham chowder recipe that started with slow cooking the ham bone leftovers. Ended up taking ideas from multiple recipes to create something that worked out pretty well.

Ham Bone Chowder image

Steps:

  • Place ham bone in a slow cooker; top with chicken stock, onion, and garlic.
  • Cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours.
  • Remove ham bone from slow cooker; pull meat of bone and shred. Return meat to slow cooker and discard ham bone. Add potatoes, carrots, parsley, and cumin to soup.
  • Cook on High until potatoes are tender, about 45 minutes. Add frozen corn and stir.
  • Remove 1 cup soup and pour into a blender. Add milk to blender. Cover and hold lid down; pulse a few times before leaving on to blend. Return blended soup to slow cooker and stir. Season with salt and pepper.

  • In a small saucepan, saute the ham, onion and celery in butter for 5 minutes or until ham is lightly browned and vegetables are tender. Add the broth and potatoes; bring to a boil. Slow Cooker Ham and Potato Soup image

Steps:

  • Combine ham hock, onions, carrot, water, chicken base, sage, thyme, and rosemary in a large slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low, 8 hours to overnight.
  • Stir potatoes and tomatoes into the soup and cook on Low, 3 to 4 hours more.
  • Remove ham hock, shredding with 2 forks, leaving behind any meat. Add cubed ham.
  • Meanwhile, melt butter in a saute pan over medium heat. Whisk in flour until it is thick, aromatic, and slightly browned, 15 to 20 minutes. Add half-and-half until it is gravy consistency. Add mixture to the slow cooker and mix well. Serve with Cheddar cheese.
