Steps:

  • Fill a large bowl halfway with water. Add lemon juice and mix. Peel, core, and slice apples and pears, putting them in the lemon water to prevent browning.
  • Drain fruit; do not rinse. Place drained fruit, 1/4 cup water, and cinnamon stick in a multi-functional electric pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot®). Set the Manual mode to high pressure according to manufacturer's instructions; set timer for 3 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
  • Release pressure using the natural-release method according to manufacturer's instructions, up to 15 minutes. Unlock lid. Remove and discard cinnamon stick. Pass the cooked fruit through a food mill; sauce will be slightly coarse. Blend fruit with an immersion blender for a smoother sauce.

CHUNKY APPLE/PEAR SAUCE (SUGAR FREE)

I love this recipe, it tastes amazing! It would be great with lamb or pork chops. Note: Remove those pesky stickers when you buy the apples, but try not to blemish the fruit. These stickers tend to get harder to remove as the fuit ages.

Steps:

  • Peel and core all the fruit. Cut in large cubes.
  • Place the fruit in a large saucepan.
  • Mix the stevia and sea salt with the water and add to the pot of fruit.
  • Add the cinnamon and nutmeg to the fruit in the pot. Stir the spices into the fruit so they are coated.
  • Bring to a boil, then turn down and simmer for 25 minutes. Remove the lid and let it simmer for 5 more minutes. Give it another good stir.
  • Let cool a little, then using a potato masher, mash the fruit, but leave chunks, it's really tasty with pieces of fruit still big enough to chew.
  • Store in a mason jar in the fridge. It keeps for about a week, but it may not last that long :)
  • Enjoy!

10 medium sweet apples, peeled and cored
2 large bosc pears, peeled and cored
1 cup(s) filtered water
1 tablespoon(s) ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon(s) nutmeg, use fresh ground if you can
1 large dropper of liquid vanilla creme stevia (approx. 1 tsp.)
1 pinch(es) celtic sea salt

APPLE PEAR SAUCE

Pear applesauce? Papplesauce? Appearsauce? When the apple-pear sauce is served warm, you will not need any additional sugar. As it cools it loses some of the natural sweetness, and you might want to add sugar to taste.

SPICED APPLE-PEAR SAUCE

The natural sweetness of fresh apples and pears makes this homemade sauce a standout over the store-bought version. Lemon juice adds brightness and keeps the fruit from browning, and cinnamon and nutmeg lend warm spice notes.

Taste the mixture and add the remaining tablespoon of sugar if desired.

APPLE-PEAR SAUCE

Homemade applesauce is way more delicious than anything out of a jar, and the perk is you can eat it warm-when my family likes it best-and jar any leftovers. Making it from scratch allows you to keep it as chunky as you prefer, or puree it completely. I add pear for juice and sweetness, and just a bit of lemon and cinnamon. The trick is to not overcomplicate it with too many spices and overpower that fresh-picked apple taste. We always double and sometimes triple this batch and make extra to share with friends. Any home with a new baby or someone who is healing will appreciate this nurturing homemade simple treat.

Steps:

  • Toss together the apples, pears, 1/4 cup water, maple syrup and 2 teaspoons cinnamon in a large pot with a heavy bottom (a Dutch oven works great for this). Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, over low heat, until the fruit are very tender, about 45 minutes or up to 1 hour. Stir in the lemon juice and use a potato masher to smash to your desired consistency. If you like a completely smooth, pureed sauce, use an immersion blender to blend until smooth. Taste and add additional cinnamon to your liking.
  • Serve warm, or cool completely and store in sterile jars with tight-fitting lids up to 1 week in the refrigerator.

5 pounds mix of firm, tart apples, such as Honeycrisp or Crispin, and sweet apples, such as Golden Delicious or Cortland (about 10 to 12 large apples), peeled, cored and chopped
2 1/2 pounds juicy Bartlett pears (about 5 large pears), peeled, cored and chopped
2 to 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
2 to 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

SUPER SIMPLE PEAR APPLESAUCE

Apples are okay, but pears are divine. I wanted to figure out how to make a simple pear sauce because I like pears far more than apples. It had to be simple, quick, fresh, and above all else, easy to clean-up. So I decided to experiment and started with the most basic recipe possible. I love the flavor, and you can't get much simpler: 3 pieces of raw fruit, a knife, cutting board, blender, and 2 bowls.

  • Peel and core the apples and pears. Chop the pears into large bite-sized chunks and cut the apples a little smaller than that (the apples will take a bit longer to cook, so the difference in size will help them finish cooking at the same time).
  • Place the apples, pears, water, and vanilla bean in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer, covered for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Depending on how much moisture is in your fruit you might need to add more water during cook time. If it seems dry, or is sticking to the bottom, add a few tablespoons of water.
  • After 25 minutes, remove the lid and allow the mixture to simmer uncovered until the fruit is tender and easily mashable. Continue to add more water, if necessary. If you accidentally add too much water, just let the mixture simmer uncovered until the extra liquid evaporates.
  • Remove the vanilla bean and allow to cool slightly. Use your fingers to squeeze the remaining seeds into the applesauce, discarding the pod. Use a potato masher to mash the apples and pears into a chunky sauce, or use an immersion blender to blend it into a smooth sauce.
