SAUERKRAUT HOT DOG TOPPING

  • Combine all ingredients in a saucepan; cook on low heat until heated through. Serve over hot dogs.

  • 1. Saute onions in butter until soft and lightly caramelized.
  • 2. Add sauerkraut.
  • 3. When mixture is warm, add remaining ingredients.
  • 4. Bring to simmer and cook until thickened.

2 medium onions, cut in half and sliced thin
1 teaspoon butter
1 cup sauerkraut
1 teaspoon dijon mustard
1/2 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons texas pete hot sauce

HOT DOGS AND SAUERKRAUT

This is so simple to make but tastes so good! My mom made this for us when we were younger and still a favorite of mine. Smoked sausage could also be used but I prefer the hot dogs. Serve this over mashed potatoes for total comfort food.

  • In a large skillet add the sauerkraut. Place hot dogs on top of the kraut.
  • Cover and let simmer 15-20 minutes or until hot dogs are plump and hot.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes.
