VERMONT APPLE CRISP
One of the girls in my dorm gave me this recipe. She said when her uncle (a Vermont transplant) missed Vermont, her aunt prepared this for him. It is a wonderful substitute for a traditional apple pie and is great either alone or with vanilla ice cream.

VERMONT APPLE CRISP
Steps:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Butter a 9 X 13 baking dish. In a large bowl, toss together all the filling ingredients, and spoon into baking dish. Make the topping by tossing together the dry ingredients and adding the butter by using your hands to break up and mix it until the mixture is blended. Sprinkle the topping over the fruit and bake for 45 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is nicely browned. When you are ready to serve it, make the sauce by heating the maple syrup in a saucepan over moderately low heat for 5 minutes, or until heated through. Whisk in the vanilla and ice cream, whisking until the mixture is smooth. Serve the apple crisp topped with vanilla ice cream and the maple sauce. Enjoy!
